I've tried before and it's on average around 100-110, with one or two mistakes. I do touch typing but it's not really home row style. Left hand is currently... palm on the bottom of the keyboard, thumb on space bar, index is usually around d, middle around w, ring around a, pinky around shift and my right hand hovering around whever it's needed with no permanant place of residence on the keyboard, it prefers to be on the mouse. A style mostly born out of gaming.

Ive been rated by a more accurate system in the past. I was able to top 84 wpm and I do so in an evolution of touch typing and hunt and peck where my two index fingers hover the D & K keys, My thumbs hover the space bar, my left pinky rests just outside the 1 key, and my right pinky hovers the backspace. From there, the left thumb will float between shift, control, Window, alt and space. The two index fingers predominantly do the typing as they move around their sectors. the right thumb predominantly stays as space and act as keyboard balance and the left will occasionally kick in, and the pinky typically works backspace and enter duty. So basically all I really ever typed with was two index fingers, two pinky fingers, two thumbs. So 6 out of 10.

However, that was before august 2010 when I was shot in my right arm causing a fair degree of nerve damage, limiting digit dexterity and dropping my WPM to roughly about 40 at best and averaging closer to 35. Its bad enough that I have managed to get slightly more proficient with using an on screen keyboard. All of which REALLY sucks, because if youve seen many of my posts you know I have a tendency to write unbearably long posts.

Not bad for a first attempt, only got one word wrong. Generally I won't type that fast as I think at around 70 wpm, so there's no real need to go any faster unless I'm transcribing a piece of text in front of me.

75 WPM, but I had the impression that it being random unconnected words dragged it down by quite a bit. Generally I find it much easier to read in advance and just type on auto-pilot while following the logical progression of the words.

Meh. I get between 30-35 WPM with a few mistakes, usually from hitting the right keys in the wrong order or hitting two at the same time. It doesn't help that I can't touch properly. No little finger and I need to find the first letter of the word to orientate myself before I can look away.

Yeah that is pretty slow compare to others but still I kind of find it impressive how I can mostly memories the letter keys location on this keyboard.

I tried three times and averaged about 56 words p/minute. Based on the other people who have posted here though, I guess I'm pretty crap at typing! Oh well, I'm not looking for work as a typist or stenographer or anything like that.

It's late at night so I won't test it until later.

Bare in mind these tests won't be truly accurate due to who tired the various users are and the keyboards each are using.
That is so true. My horrible Japanese keyboard is so unusable, everything and I mean everything is in the wrong place. Then when you use German, the keys start switching themselves around. There should be an international keyboard standard (then I might get my reports in on time)

I typed six words incorrectly, probably mostly because if I saw a mistake I just ignored it and kept going. I never used a typing program, other than some stupid game where you would type words to shoot aliens and that sort of thing. But I type every day, so...

Not bad, that's about as fast as I can go without making a lot more mistakes.

87 WPM, no mistakes (thanks to the Glorious Backspace).

Entirely touch-typed, and I hated that whole 'home-row' thing that they tried to teach in school...waste of time. We'd always get told to follow it and do the typing tests at the start of computer classes, so I'd wait until the teacher wasn't looking and switch to the good ol' freestyle method to finish it early.

Having to type cheat-codes in the heat of battle did more for my typing skills than schooling ever could!

Anyway, last check I was at 90 WPM with no mistakes...but I've had a long day, it's late, and I just got out of the shower.

Also the Sun was in my eyes, I wasn't ready, the dog ate my homework, and various other petty excuses for that tiny 3 point reduction.

I feel like that's pretty average. I could've done better if i was one of those aliens who can look at the screen while typing and not at the keyboard >_>
