How fast can you type?

~70 words per minute, which is pretty decent I think? I could probably type a bit faster if there was any structure to the words. My brain was tripping over the random nonsense.

I "officially" learned to type using the home row from Mavis Beacon programs at school (and a bit at home) when I was in.... middle school I guess. I didn't actually learn to type well(ish) until taking Computer Science classes in college. And I don't use the home row either.

My first try was 58 wpm with 4 mistakes. I didn't care about correcting them.

Second go, got 73 wpm with no mistakes. I still use the home row and everything. I remember getting something like 80-90 wpm in my computer classes in 8th grade. So I'm worse, but still fairly competent at typing, I guess.

Lots of people seem to have done typing classes at school :/ I feel like I missed out.

I use about 3-4 fingers to type and averaged about 45 wpm

95 WPM.

2 Wrong words, fucking The, spelt as Hte...

I used to be a secretarial typist. You got fired if you went any slower.

I only had the patience to do one set, got 70 wpm with no mistakes. I touch type, but I never learned to type using the standard home row system, so I just have some messy self-taught form that doesn't use my pinky fingers on letters at all, for example.

71 the first time.

76 the second.

That's enough for me. Fun test, though.

And yes, I used All the Right Type. But I don't use home row or anything like that. (I'm also in Alberta!)
How the hell can you guys type without using Home Row =|
I think my sensibilities would scream out in pain if I saw anyone type not using Home Row, lol (no offense intended!)

I have a friend that types in a modified Home Row stance where his fingers (left to right) are: A-W-E-V H-U-I-P.
I criticized him once for his wonky set up, and he casually typed 130 WPM... So whatever works I guess, lol.
I do something similar - it's largely because I have large hands, so if I lay my hands down flat on the keyboard, they don't fall across a horizontal line - if I try to do home row, my fingers have to be curled awkwardly. That's probably one of the reasons that typing programs never really worked for me.

Personally, I got

Words per minute (WPM) 71
Keystrokes 378
Correct words 76
Wrong words 0

It would probably have been better, except that I can't stop myself from going back and correcting my spelling, shaves off a bunch of time.

47, but I average around 45, which in my own opinion, is just too damn slow.

What's the best way to learn to type faster, other than the age-old "practice!"?

I think I've done this before. Everyone I know says I type really fast but compared to people on here I'm probably average or not even that.

Words per minute (WPM) 66
Keystrokes 422
Correct words 69
Wrong words 10

Yeah. I type fast but I make mistakes and that throws me.

Words per minute (WPM) 65
Keystrokes 448
Correct words 70
Wrong words 15

I fucked that one up towards the end.

Words per minute (WPM) 64
Keystrokes 440
Correct words 67
Wrong words 17

Yeah I can see where this is gong.

I'm not going to even try to take that test. I've taken two separate classes on proper typing methods and I still don't use it. Therefor I already know my typing speed is crap.

44 WPM but I rarely even use my right hand when typing, anything left of 'U' is lefty's territory and sometimes I don't use my right at all. I'm not even using it now.

45 wpm, i never learned how to type at school or anywhere else for that matter. I guess it's good enough to troll forums and chat in online games, not to mention that i can type a lot faster when i don't have to look at the screen all the time and read random words that would make no sense as a sentence.

6 finger typing! Some of it is owed to my Razer Blackwidow, though ;)

I've pretty much learned to type with only my index fingers. However, I'm one of the fastest index finger typers I know.

Ive been rated by a more accurate system in the past. I was able to top 84 wpm and I do so in an evolution of touch typing and hunt and peck where my two index fingers hover the D & K keys, My thumbs hover the space bar, my left pinky rests just outside the 1 key, and my right pinky hovers the backspace. From there, the left thumb will float between shift, control, Window, alt and space. The two index fingers predominantly do the typing as they move around their sectors. the right thumb predominantly stays as space and act as keyboard balance and the left will occasionally kick in, and the pinky typically works backspace and enter duty. So basically all I really ever typed with was two index fingers, two pinky fingers, two thumbs. So 6 out of 10.

However, that was before august 2010 when I was shot in my right arm causing a fair degree of nerve damage, limiting digit dexterity and dropping my WPM to roughly about 40 at best and averaging closer to 35. Its bad enough that I have managed to get slightly more proficient with using an on screen keyboard. All of which REALLY sucks, because if youve seen many of my posts you know I have a tendency to write unbearably long posts.
TL;DR posts don't really bother me. Well... They do if they are riddled with mistakes in grammar and spelling, that slight annoyance builds and builds and I just go insane >_<
