The first one is problematic but mostly enjoyable.

AC2 is one of my favorite games & I strongly recommend it but its still necessary to play through the first one to understand things.

I don't know, I really enjoyed the first game. >.> I've heard so many people say, "Start on 2" Or "Start on Brotherhood" but I'm really the type of gamer that /HAS/ to start from the very first game in a series. And yeah maybe 1 doesn't have as much as the later games, but you do have to keep in mind the fact that it was a whole new game. Maybe it's just me but I give them the benefit of the doubt of not really knowing what they were getting into and really taking a leap of faith (pun intended) with it.

It is really relative, though. I know people who started on one, loved AC1, and couldn't get into AC2 or Brotherhood because they were just very slow in the beginning in comparison to one.

Well, you've already gotten the first one out of the way, and it truly only gets better from here on out. Assassin's Creed and Brotherhood were fucking awesome. It seems like I'm the only one who actually liked Revelations, though I will concede that, other than tying up the Ezio and Altair stories, it doesn't add a whole lot; still worth getting for the fun of it by my thinking (there's a mission where you have to beat up minstrels and steal their clothes, and I find that delightful), but if you don't want to, just read a synopsis.

EDIT: And I also agree with the guy above me. I liked the first AC; however, ACII is truly a sequel done right. It added on to the basic formula and made the experience as a whole a lot better.

I'm pretty much the same in that I prefer to start from the start.

If someone was brand new to the series I would still recommend they start with AC1. I'd just recommend they do the minimum to get through the main story (avoiding all the stuff like flag-hunting and the extraneous research tasks) and keep in mind that things get better for AC2.

AC1 wasn't bad. It got boring and some of the mechanics really hurt it. It would have been better if not for the endlessly repeated side-missions and having to hunt for the same things over and over.

AC2 was better in every aspect. Characters, story, gameplay, and not repeating itself too much. There were down points, but it was fun for the most part.

AC:B had the same fixes, but they seemed to forget one of the things that made the game fun. Jumping from building to building, running from guards or just hunting someone down. Instead they replaced it with a map that was basically empty for 2/3 of it. Not to mention the '100% sync' side goals were sometimes unfair. Like not getting detected even once when putting you in an area full of enemies, or telling you to finish it in under a certain time that's almost impossible without knowing the layouts, and not even including finding all the secrets. Not to mention they seemed to force in the MP characters. Couldn't try the MP because nobody was playing on Steam. Good game, but it just pushed away from the fun parts of the game too much for me.

Haven't played AC:R yet. Giving the series a break since I beat 1, 2, and B pretty much back to back. Have it sitting in my inventory ready to play though.

Armoured Core?

The new ones are pretty terrible, but overall the series is pretty damn great. Giant mechs + insane amount of customization options = awesome!

Last Raven was my favourite one.

There were many and numerous complaints about Assassins Creed 1. I personally liked running around, climbing up things and stabbing people but I found it fucking tedious to play through the story as it was just more and more of the same old boring, stab 3 people without being seen here here and here. Kill 3 archers here here and... destroy this market and run away, fetch these flags... which then becomes a race just... argh... what was the point.

Assassins Creed 2 was... something of a shock to reviewers... as it had listened to all the critics... and fixed it... pretty much all of it. Few games have actually done that...

Assassins Creed 2 and onward not only improves the mechanics of the game vastly but also... the way missions and the story are dealt with in a much better way. There is no routine but you basically go after a guy and to do so you must investigate, or gather local support or do a favor for a favor for someone... for example a local painter who later becomes your best gay friend... Leonardo Da Vinci (not that sort of favor. Favor as in carrying some paintings for him across the street, no really).

Watch a lets play on the Youtube. That'll convince you unless your a priest who can't tollorate death :p

I found the first one fun, but I understand why a lot of people didn't. Here's a target, go learn about him, kill him, report back. Yeah, it's repetitive but that's why I liked it: That's what an assassin is. Granted, I'm not an actual assassin nor do I know anyone who's an actual assassin but I figured that's what an assassin was. A man who kills a target designated by their superiors. It's just a job. Now don't get me wrong, the story in practically every AC since then is better, but I liked that in the first one, when they said you're an assassin, they meant it. Even though it kind of shot them in the foot.
But I see that you don't like it, so I'm going to tell you that it gets better, *definitely* pick one of the later ones up I think you might like one of those. Because those ones make the brotherhood feel less like a business and more like a fraternity.

I found they kept changing the games just enough between each iteration that all the "works" or "does amazing" set-ups from previous incarnations no longer own and you have to discover the new working set-ups.

AC2 I got with my PS2 and I was both pretty amazed with it in general (bumping up from PS1 graphics, frame-rates, ect.) and it was pretty exciting to actually have some fun hands-on Mech game that wasn't anime influenced Gundam garbage.

But I found the PS3 generation of AC (Produced by Sega or something) were pretty crappy. Nice graphics, but the controls were shit and ruined the entire experience.

==========================================

And then I read the title and it says Assassins Creed, not Armored Core.

Assassins creed is stupid. Skip it.

It has giant mechs blowing the shit out of each other, what's not fun about that?

Oh, this is the other AC series. It's not fun, go get Armored Core.
It seems my laziness has been found out D:
I have never played/heard of Armored Core so i do apologize for not actually saying Assassin's Creed.

I watched a walkthrough of the first Assassin's Creed game, mainly because I really fail at the first game and hearing how well AC2 is I thought I would give it a shot instead of chalking the series up, already ordered AC2 and after watching a walkthrough of AC1 for the storyline, I am well prepared for what is in store :D

AC is fucking awesome.

I'm not sure why you are talking about 'Assassins Creed' tho...

'Armored Core' is older and more of an intense game series.

AC = Armored Core, dood.

Pray for Answer.
Well you see, I have never heard of Armored Core before so me assuming that AC was short for Assassin's Creed (yes assuming is never the smart thing to do and this proves it)

I will check out Armored Core later on.

...isn't "fun" a relative term?
Not on the internet.

OT: I enjoyed the first one, but the second one bored me. I haven't played the next two, but the III looks excellent so far.

If you don't like the first, give the second a rent. It may be more your cup of tea.

I thought the first AC was kinda bleh.

I really enjoyed AC2.

I'd try the second game and if you don't like it, you don't like it. No big.

Ace Combat predates them both.

Plus, it includes this music:

Can't go wrong with it.

Me? I didn't like AssCreed at all, and the second one was no better (I only bought that one after the DRM was removed). Not my sort of game I guess. It is certainly no Thief or Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory which I guess is what I was hoping for. I did like The Saboteur despite it being quite similar, but then it had this interesting thing going for it where you play a insurgent fighting an occupying army.

When I say story I mean its pacing.

In AC1 it was intro then...

Be given mission/lecture. Travel to city. Go to Den. Do 3 to 7 missions to "gather intel" >.> Find guy, listen to rant, kill him, run away go back to base, do next mission.

After last mission do something and kill someone else and then spoilers as shit hits the fan.

AC2 ditches the format and approaches the game in a more logical and point to point basis instead of do 7 missions go kill guy >.>

Occasionally it will do a weird quite illogical, go search this dungeon to plunder treasure... but I quite like them :)

Assassin's Creed 1 on the other hand was god awful... gameplay wise. the story was nifty.

I was kinda let down by Pray for Answer. I feel like they put more money into the opening cinematic than the actual game :p. Granted, tweaking my mech was great. But actually piloting it was a bit of a different story.

Well, I'm a PC gamer (mainly) who can't tolerate Ubisoft DRM, and the first one was the only one without it on the PC... so I won't be playing the others :p
