How good are you at singing?

I have good pitch and an ear for tone, but I hate the timbre/sound quality of my voice. Like, I can perform very well on vocals in Rock Band, for example, it's just the actual sound of it.....ugh.

I'm pretty sure there's a clause in the Geneva convention against me singing.

Of course, that won't stop me from acting like an utter fool to put a smile on someone's face

I love Elliott Smith, but he's not actually a good singer. He writes beautiful songs, but his breath control is terrible, and while he's fortunate that shakiness sounds pleasant/heartbreaking in his voice, for most other people, that would be disastrous. xP

And this is where our definitions of a good singer diverge. A unique, emotional, and oddly pleasant singing voice will always trump technical perfection in my eyes. Probably because I connect with the music on a personal rather than professional level, so a perfectly executed vocal track tends to come off very vanilla. Or boring as hell, to be more accurate.

I'll get the technical stuff out of the way:
I've been in all state choirs almost every year of high school. i think i went to 10 separate honor choirs other than that.

that's the technical stuff; because i don't really care how "good" they think i am. i sing for the fun and for the people you meet. without it i would honestly have gone crazy by now. i love it.

Nono, we're still on the same page, although yes, I did just use the word "good" to mean "technically good." A boring singer might as well shut up. I'm just saying he's lucky that his emotion finds an avenue through bad technique; whereas, a lot of other singers spend years learning to sing with good technique and they still don't get noticed. It's slightly tragic, but it has no bearing on what I like to listen to.
