I love cracked.com. I read it every day.

One of todays articles really got me intrested. The "7 questions you did'nt know could be answered with math"

Link: http://www.cracked.com/article_19360_7-questions-you-didnt-know-could-be-answered-with-math.html

Now if you skip to entry number 1 it gives you an equation to work out your happiness.
Heres the foruma and a set of rules to follow by:

Here, P stands for personal characteristics, E for existence (health, financial stability and friendships) and H is higher order, and covers self-esteem, confidence, ambitions and sense of humor. All of these can be established by answering four questions:

1. "Are you outgoing, energetic, flexible and open to change?"

2. "Do you have a positive outlook, bounce back quickly from setbacks and feel that you are in control of your life?"

3. "Are your basic life needs met, in relation to personal health, finance, safety, freedom of choice and sense of community?"

4. "Can you call on the support of people close to you, immerse yourself in what you are doing, meet your expectations and engage in activities that give you a sense of purpose?"

Answer on a scale of one to 10: P is the answer for Questions 1 and 2; E for Question 3 and H for Question 4. Put them into the formula and you'll get a rating out of 100. Over 80, and you get a happiness medal to keep forever and ever, because chances are it won't last long. Under 20, and you probably can't read this over your wailing. But at least now you can quantify exactly how miserable you are!

I scored 64 for my current circumstances.

Wouldn't it be easier, and more useful to ask "How happy are you? Answer on a scale of 1-100".

If I have different answers for 1) and 2), but they are both the value P, how does that work? Is P the sum of 1) and 2), or the average, or the highest? I am assuming the sum, because then there is a chance the equation will add up to 100.

I score well using the equation (67), but I am not happy. Why? Because although my lower and higher order needs are met - I have chronic depression. The equation doesn't seem to fit.

I got the same score and have the same problem. Though some of that problem has to do with my current living situation. Yes basic needs are all met but that doesn't make me happy. Not when its met with screaming and a general dislike of me being here.

I'm Drunk! It's 7:15 and I'm listening Cage and the Elephant from my flat in Paris... Finshed my bottle of La Goudale and going to find some Kronenberg and cook myself a Stir Fry...Talk to my favourite people as well on skype (Family/Friends) and have work off tomorrow!

All in all.. I'm very happy!

68.

Actually, I feel that score is a little low. But marching band starting is just a reminder that school's almost here, and the start of school always makes me sadder.

47 Actually surprised it's that high, considering I just spent some time in a mental ward for suicide watch, evidently this test places strong values on certain things. Also, some are poorly written "Are you outgoing, energetic, flexible and open to change" I'm not outgoing, or energetic, but am very flexible and open to change... And so on

I got a 75. So I guess that makes me a fairly optimistic and happy bastard...
