*Hardcore

I HAVE YOU NOW.

Ya know, let's say that you're a fan of something.

Well then, how MUCH/BIG of a fan are you?
Are you extreme?

Have you ever gone to an extreme point of being in that fandom?

Also, a more general question is, have you ever considered yourself a "huge fan" of something to begin with, be it a show, game, etc?

I'm just curious.

I've never obsessed over something to the extent of buying everything I can find that is associated with a franchise.

For instance, I love Mass Effect, but I'm not fussed about reading any of the books.

[sub]I'd kill for an Amaterasu plushie though...[/sub]

Hardcore is a stupid term anyway.

Your worth as a fan isn't measured by your obsession over something.

You can't argue with a good lure.
Anyways, how is your worth as a fan measured then?

Marketing people want you to think you it's based on how much you're buying. But marketing people are assholes. I think they're just barely below lawyers and dentists in loathed professions.

Why does it have to be measured? I don't think there is any good measurement, and it ultimately doesn't matter.

I've never really collected memorabilia or anything like that.

A fan is someone who can see their favourite things for what they are.

Okami? Brilliant game, absolutely love it.

Okamiden? Ehh, not so great, feels very limited by the hardware it's on which should have been considered by the devs, instead of trying to basically port a PS2 title onto the DS.

The line between fan and fanboy is a fine one.

I own all halo games from the very first halo to Odst to reach and beyond to the world of modded halo games.

In many games I play I make a male gunner named 'Master Chief' with added x's or -'s if it's not available.
If a gunner class isn't available for me then I choose a thief, give him as many green items I can and make him very very tall and name him Master Thief.

So...yeah.

Well, let's just say that I mention Scorpion King 3 every single day to at least one person. And try to include it in the majority of my posts here.

Like this one. Right here.

It will become a cult favorite! I will make it so!

I'm a pretty hardcore for:

Fire Emblem: beaten most of the games, even the JP only ones, tried my hand at ROM hacking
Pokemon: was into competitive battling for a while, know a fuck load about it
Naruto: sort of, read and watched a shit ton of the series, but doesn't really own any merch.

I don't understand why people loathe dentists so much; people resent them for pointing out how poorly they take care of their teeth? Hell, my teeth are pretty bad, but I'd never blame the dentist for that; they're the ones who keep my teeth in good condition.

I don't have much merchandise due to being broke, but I think I'm a pretty devout fan of what I do like. It mainly just depends on what I'm being a fan of.

I am not hard, no, not hard at all. I am, for example, a big fan of John Carpenter, but that doesn't mean that I don't think his films after Village of the Damned are shithouse. I'm a big fan of Dr Who, but I don't listen to the radio dramas or read the novelizations or own any memorabilia, I don't even own a scarf.

:D Oh god.. I'm a die-hard Bungie fan. I think I have purchased, or at least played, every single one of their games except for the Desert Storm game. My gaming laptop has a custom-made desktop composed of images from their Pathways Into Darkness/Marathon universe(s).

I own (and wear!) a Bungie track jacket, have one of their "Destiny" coffee/drink cups, and purchased two posters from their 20th anniversary sale. I tried my damnedest to obtain at least one of those 20th anniversary mystery sacks, but I had no luck. =( I even skipped my University classes that morning to sit at my computer for a solid 3 hours hitting the refresh key in the hopes that one would appear.

Until I am given a reason not to, I will at least ATTEMPT to purchase anything Bungie puts out, simply for the sake of giving Bungie the benefit of the doubt: they've never led me astray before. I enjoyed all of the Halo games, although I was right there with them breathing a sigh of relief (though also with a bit of a heavy heart) when they were finally allowed to quit making the series, and I will not purchase any of the ensuing Halo games made by 343i. On that note, I enjoyed ODST a good deal more than Reach in every department.

I also routinely play through the Marathon series at least once each year; I don't have all of the secrets memorized, and I'm not the greatest player in the world (although with the INCREDIBLY minute number of players, I suppose I was/am technically pretty high up there XD), but I have as much of the story down as I can for now, and I frequently check the Marathon Story page online.

And finally: I have never forgiven ID Software for hogging the spotlight when Marathon should have been recognized for the absolute BRILLIANCE that it was composed of. I still play their games, and I thoroughly enjoyed Doom 3 and Rage (aside from Rage's many problems, the largest one being that the game felt like it should just be getting started when it was actually ending).

Oh, and for my finale: If anyone ever happens to discover they own one of the fabled Marathon Keychains, I will give you all three of my sisters, my first born son, and anything else I can give you in exchange for it.

How hard am I? I am made of flesh, bones, and gooey junk. That is not very hard at all.

Seriously though, hardcore... Thank you, you have pulled out the one word I needed to use to explain something that is a misconception around people who know me...and the countless others on the internet who don't, per se. I am not really hardcore about things. The people who geek out and have nerdgasms over what they like? That's not me. They're the extreme response, the biggest fans. I just like things, enjoy what I see and get entertained by. You have helped me define what people mistake so easily and for that I am grateful.

I used to have nasty obsessions with Armored Core, Digimon, and Pokemon. Mostly moved on though.

...Mostly.

I imported Black 2 because I'm a huge Pokemon fan.
I'm also a huge Crash Bandicoot fan, and kind of a Sony fanboy.

Depends who's perspective you're looking from.

by a lot of people's perspectives, I've been fairly obsessed with WOW, Runescape, Pokemon, Warcraft3, Dragonball/ DBZ and Megaman, but I only have the attention span to obsess over one thing at a time and many of these interests have been neglected in favour of other interests for years at a time. These are just the interests I most frequently revisit, but I haven't thought about or played Runescape, Warcraft3 or WOW for a while now. As for the others, I'm currently on a shiny hunt (shiny lucario) in pokemon black, I've been replaying the megaman X series and started X5 for the first time, and I rewatched the first season of dragonball(not Z) earlier this month.

Actually shiny hunting takes a very special kind of obsession.....
