How has a game POSITIVELY affected your life?

Halo 2/3 gave my friends and I a lot of fun for ages.

Call of Duty 4-6 helped me to interact with and become friends with people from my high school.

The earlier Call of Duty games and Company of Heroes got me more involved in studing history, I was top of the year for history my first 2 years of HS.

World in Conflict, Deus Ex, Metro 2033, Mass Effect and others made me more open minded and some I think, strangely, in some ways sort of allowed me to tolerate people more.

Stalker helped me fail school and that caused me to get my current job. So it basically caused the awesomeness of my current life...

Well, games brought me into a positive contact with history, mostly by letting me kill nazis. And now I'm studying to become a History teacher... Also I spend most of my free time on games. so I don't heve to sport or something. awesome.

I learned to read.

I started playing Zelda: Ocarina of Time when I was 4 or so with my mum, and she would read out the text for me. I eventually got so frustrated with her slow reading pace that I taught myself to read. So that I could play Zelda. 8D

Well acording to research, long time gamers brains are wired differently 'cos we use MK or controller to do something else without looking at it.

So 'cos we are wired like this we could help cure some brain problems, while lowering our chances of contracting them.

- I've started using the phrase "Much appreciated" after I took a liking to it after hearing it in Resident Evil 5 (Chris says it sometimes when you heal him)

- Through Age of Empires and Age of Mythology, I learned a bit of interesting information about history and mythology

- Playing Starcraft has made me better at multitasking (a useful skill for a radio announcer to have)

- Playing various action games has improved my reflexes (useful for sports and driving) and improved my ability to predict my opponent's next move (useful in sports)

- I discovered the awesomeness that is the song Painkiller (Judas Priest) through Rock Band 2, which I play almost all the time whenever I want to get pumped up to go running/boxing, or when I just plain feel like a badass. I also used it in a few of my college projects.

- Playing games often staves off boredom, which in turn keeps me awake and able to focus when I need to do homework (the more bored I am, the less productive I am)

Pokemon is helping me get friends in college. Seriously.
Besides that, WoW helped me connect with my cousins through group leveling. God that game is fun with friends.

Not a game as such, but a combination of games and an online forum..

I'd got myself into a serious amount of trouble legally and to avoid making my situation any worse, I'd withdrawn from my group of IRL friends and started forming new friendships via a website, whilst also expanding my game collection/playing games more.

Even after everything was cleared up, I still played games MUCH more than before and remained friends with the "new" group much more than my original buddies.

well, outside star fox and half life getting me interested in sci fi and then science, age of empires peaking my interest in reading sun tzu's art of war and then confucius and then german philosophers...

yeah, im a total nerd to begin with i guess, but video games (reason im at college as well) also provided me with invaluable escapism to help me thru my bland and meaningless existence throughout my childh...actually, they still do.

between reading war tactics and escaping reality, im not really demonstrating a very positive effect, am i?

With all the discussion of games and their real world values, especially with the Supreme Court hearing and all, I'd like to hear from people whom gaming has touched in a positive way. We've heard enough cases of inbreds blaming FPS's for their misdeeds, let us touch on the other side of the argument!

I for one went into a career in law as a direct result of the Phoenix Wright games for DS. Quite literally I now have a practicing degree in Law because of a video game.
