Do you think that another atomic bomb will be dropped within the next 50 years? Why or why not?

It's an interesting question once you consider the future of the human race and international relations. I'm not into war, but I like to hear people predictions/ prophesies from time to time. The Doomsday clock is at around 6 minutes or so right now I think. Just go with the first thoughts that you have on the subject.

I think we rather are in a phase of nuclear disarmament, so I doubt it. Not to forget H-bombs have much better brisance and they lack the most negative part: atomic fallout.

I severely doubt that there will be a symmetrical nuclear war of the type we think about in the next 50, 100, or 1000 years, barring some sort of unforeseen technological development such as "stealth" nukes that removes Mutually Assured Destruction.

The only real danger of nuclear weapons comes from weapon security. Can the state keep its monopoly on control of nuclear weapons? 200 nukes went missing when the USSR crumbled ? those 200 nukes are infinitely more dangerous than any number that Russia, China, or even North Korea and Iran have or could potentially have.

It depends on a few circumstances: mainly North Korea, Russia, China, and rogue states like Iran and Venezuela. A nuclear device would more than likely be detonated by any one of those countries (the latter two depending on if they actually acquire nukes). The possibility is never far away although it isn't the up front issue that it was during the Cold War. Although there will probably be a war between major the major powers within the next 50 years, I doubt that anyone will resort to using nukes unless they've gone insane.

I would only agree that a symbolic clock is as nourishing to the intellect as photograph of oxygen to a drowning man.

No proper atomic weapons, but I can see either Mossad or Hamas detonating a dirty bomb or reactor in Iran or Tel Aviv respectively. Nothing that could cause Fallout to become reality, but enough to piss enough people off into a conventional World War III.

There's a reason we fought the cold war in vietnam and afghanistan. Symbolic puppets duking it out is how super powers fight wars.

I live in the most rural place in my country, so I'll never be bombed. I suppose the radiation from Birmingham might blow over though, as that would probably be a likely target for a nuke...

I dont think it will ever happen though. The world has seen how much damage they cause, and most countries have them, so retaliation is a given. It just wouldn't be worth it.

Awesome, almost noone sees it as a possibility. I'm one of those fools who thinks that the more you think about a possible thing happening, the more likely it is to happen, so that's awesome.

Atomic bomb dropped... I don't believe so. I don't think humanity will be around in 50 years something else would have gotten us by then. Seriously, Have you seen how fucked up our world is at this very moment. An atomic bomb would probably save us from a much much worse death.
