How important is sex to you?

A lot less important to me than it was in my 20s...and to be honest I'm kind of glad. Makes it easier to concentrate on things when I don't constantly have thoughts about sex jumping up out of nowhere.

Aldolases are pretty badass, but if you're looking to synthesize something (and not just expressing it off of a plasmid in culture to purify), it's cheaper and easier to go with acid and heat (or something more complicated for stereocontrol), because proteins are a lot of work to purify and have specificity to their normal substrates. I'm slowly coming to love isomerases and thioester intermediates, they are fun. I'm a protein mechanism kinda girl these days. But I do enjoy organic synthesis, it is FUN AS HELL. Hetero-Diels-Alder reactions are SEXY. And also ZOMG biologically stable ylides bring me no end of joy. Silyl-chemistry is pretty excellent, lets you do all sorts of clever things.
Sexiest thing I've ever read! XD

Still, I remember doing some carbohydrate chemistry, and replicating what would normally be a twelve step synth takes about thirty enzymes to carry it out. But for all that, awesome yields... ultimately I always ended up with about less than ten percent after a six step retro-, if I was lucky... :/ Rate of turnover, clean reaction, ease of product purification... and chiral-control, great deal if you can get enough of it.

Anyway, I'll try to weave Michael additions into anything... delightfully simple and elegant. Though, when you mention stable ylides... never heard of an enzyme mediated Wittig reaction (first thing that came to mind...).

And since we've gone off-topic, how's about we talk about endogenous opioids and calcium ion cascades... that's related to sex, isn't it?!

(And damn me, the memories of neurobiology 101...!)

What is this "sex" of which you speak?

Is it an expansion pack for Battlefield?

If not, not interested

It would be delightful to be able to use enzymes to bring up yields and stereocontrol, but it's just not feasible, aside from the difficulty in getting proteins, they are often not stable or soluble in reaction solutions. Seriously, protein precipitating out of solution is so friggin' annoying.
It's not a Wittig reaction, it's often used to transfer groups from one substrate to another: TPP (a cofactor for the pyruvate dehydrogenase complex) is a sulfur and nitrogen-conatining ylid, and is quite lovely : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thiamine_pyrophosphate

Oh, I had forgotten about those. There is something really satisfying about using carbanions for things. I don't really know why.

Oh dear, I do not remember much about opioid receptors, I'm more familiar with hormone signaling and muscle excitation, at least in terms of neuron/sexual behavior biochemistry.

I could tell you about the effects of estrogenics? Or puberty onset?

Chemistry is sexy as hell though, does that count?

Technically sex is the sole reason for all biological life. So yes, it's infinitely important in that respect.

And also take the fact that the only species that have sex recreationally and get a pleasurable experience out of it, are also in the higher tiers of intelligence levels. I.e Dolphins, Chimpanzee's, honey badgers etc etc.

So essentially, we enjoy sex so much, because we are intelligent. Fuck yes.

Also take note that the human female is the ONLY creature in the entire animal kingdom to have a organ of her body DEDICATED to sexual pleasure (The Clitoris). Not to mention the entire freaking clusters of muscles and nerves in the female body dedicated to inducing violent orgasms.

Sex is also very, very good for you both physically and mentally. It keeps you fit, increases your cardio, while creating an orgy of chemical combinations in your brain that improve shit like memory, and perception, and heightened senses. Not to mention the psychological boost it gives you.

It seems evolution has formed humanity in such a way that it makes sex the most inviting act ever, with very, VERY few downsides compared to... I dunno, the black widow mating ritual? Where she eats her mate?

It's also very promising for our next big evolutionary stepping stone. Where people explode in a shower of ecstasy and semen at the click of a finger. Awwh yeahh.

AND THE THEISTS WENT AHEAD AND PROHIBITED THIS SHIT.

Sex is pretty unimportant to me. Sure I wouldn't mind it, but I manage to get by fine without it.

I'm too lazy to enjoy it. I'm not even particularly unfit, but its overrated, especially when my hand does a good job of achieving the same effect.

Then again I've never been in a relationship so it's always just been emotionless pounding.

I'm male, btw.

I love sex. It is one of my two favorite activities.

And "slut" is just a word used against people who enjoy sex by those who can't get any. :p

I see it as a means to reproduce and nothing more. If I were to have sex, it would be to create offspring and no more. As I don't want to make any babies, then I think its absolutely meaningless and a waste of time. We still need to make babies, so I'll leave that to everyone else.

I?m a virgin, and even though many of my teenage peers have had sex, I don?t really have a desire to have sex any time soon, let alone a girlfriend. I?ve got far too many stressful problems in my life before I can move onto that, and when I do, I think I?d care more about just being with her, talking and cuddling and whatnot. Like how I see and hear from my friends when they?re in relationships, followed by an unwanted yet instant twinge of jealousy.

However, I have a feeling that it?s probably not as good as people say it is, due to its potential complications, oversaturation in media and societal pressures. Even masturbation and porn is getting boring to me now. But I don?t think, when I?m older and more socially confident, I?m going to be one of those people that just goes to bars and has sex with a bunch of random girls before buggering off in the morning. I don?t think I?d care if I only ever had sex with one person throughout my entire life, just as long as it?s nice and intimate.

See, I say, if you feel the need to justify your sex life something's up.

Sex is very important for me. I don't have sex outside of relationships, only with someone I care about. And if I had it my way, we'd be doing it twice a day.

I would assume that's because you have Autism thus initiating intimate relations is a lot of work :p
That, and the fact that SHE said the only reason she will ever have sex is because she wants children (if it makes any difference, she has Aspergers too)

It is... without a doubt, the most important thing to me. It pleasures me, and satisfies my needs as a mare. Without it, everything just squirts all over the place and makes a gooey mess!

Sex is important to me, but not as important as it was 10 years ago when I first had it. Oddly enough, it is also much, much better now than it was 10 years ago. Kinda helps that I've been with the same person that whole time.
