How is it even possible for someone this stupid to be in an honors class?

It's fun to troll people like that because they've got their heads so far up their asses about how smart they are and how stupid everyone else is that they don't know how to grasp even extremely blatant sarcasm.

(gee, where have I seen THAT before? Hmmm...)
Did it have to do with a certain post labeled "This is satire"?

Anyways, you're being trolled, OP. TROLLED. And it worked.

Booksmarts are different from plain old common sense.

You'd be surprised how many "intelligent" people are really ignorant about alot of common stuff. Or maybe you wouldn't.
You'd think the date of creation for one of the most important inventions in human history would be remembered by someone with booksmarts though.

OP - He was totally trolling you. 10:1 odds he was laughing his ass off at how gullible you are.

Everyone and their grandmother has pointed out that either the dude the OP was talking about was trolling, or the OP himself was trolling, so I'm not going to go over that again. What I am going to say is that there is rarely any barrier to honestly stupid people getting into honors classes theses days. At least in my area, it's no longer tied to test scores; if a student signs up for honors (or their parents do it for them) they generally get in, no questions asked. Heck, students can generally get into an AP class without having to worry about prior test scores. The honors and AP designations have more to do with the class itself than the students in it, or their performance in prior classes. Now college honors programs do usually have barriers to entry, but public schools are a bit more touchy-feely about this sort of thing than colleges are.

Well, that depends. If they're well-focused and do their work, than yes, he should.
P.S. I didn't mean to sound like his mother there.

I believe these kids are stoners, or trolling. Either way, just ignore them. Besides, I wouldn't expect anyone to know about any comics now a days. They seem to have disappeared somewhere. But that doesn't matter. The whole George Bush thing is something they'd to to either get a reaction out of you for, or to laugh about later. Also, education does have way lower standards now a days. When people need the teacher to go over Area and Perimeter of a rectangle in a Gr.10 Academic math class, something's wrong.
But still; Ignore them.
Whoa Whoa, what's with the hostility towards stoners...not cool man we're a peaceful people.

No one can be that stupid and still get good grades in school. He's just trolling you, or he's just one of those strange kids that likes telling lies. I knew a couple of those when I was in school - people who would just invent bizarre fables and 'facts' and just say them. This is how "urban legends" get started.

I think I'll paraphrase totalbiscuit here.

He said something to the effect of "trolling has taken on some kind of meta level now. A person saying something stupid would immediatly be leveled as a troll but there are genuinely stupid people who actually BELIEVE what they are saying."

OP should just smack the ho.

I mean seriously, its one thing to spout plainly wrong things outside of class, but this "Him and his friends are constantly saying stupid things, asking the teacher questions that were answered by what they just said, asking the teacher questions that someone else had just asked" thats just wasting your time.

Course, make your feelings known to the teachers and administrators as well as your parents. After all, when the day finally comes and you snap and shout them down and get sent home your parents will understand.

Case in point, I had to shout down my own class when they wouldn't STFU. Teacher starts talking and immediately conversation.

:D

He's trolling. Gotta be.

If not, he's more likely ignorant than stupid - maybe he hasn't learned much outside the honors-type classes he's in, and doesn't care to know anything about comic books in general? Maybe he hasn't had an interest in popular culture?

For the love of...

PEOPLE DON'T ACTUALLY TROLL, THAT IS JUST AN INTERNET MYTH.

99% of the time when people say stupid things, it's because they're just earnestly, sightlessly stupid. Immediately assuming that they're doing it as part of a elaborate lukewarm joke is having way too much faith in humanity. If only it was so, and 24-hour news networks, the entire American southwest, and the Westboro Baptist Church could all be neatly attributed to 'Trolling' and dismissed.

Of course this guy is trolling. By the sound of things, he was quite successful. For shame, sir.

Lol My Algebra 2 teacher had to go over this recently because the students in the back of the room failed the Kansas Math Assessment... (They have to pass to graduate/get a GED)

Everyone but the 4 people who failed groaned over the redundancy :/

*Edit*
11th/10th grade math class.
Oh jeez, I just remembered I had the WORST Algebra 2 teacher in the world.
He did not teach us.
He flipped through slides on powerpoints he got off the internet.
They weren't right, either.
The books issued were downright stupid. (They managed to be missing half of what I would consider necessary examples of the problems described)
We just taught ourselves and played DS the whole time.
Two years later, I have an excellent calculus teacher (bout time).

I'm going to agree with what so many others have said, dude, you got the shit trolled out of you. The obvious answer to "how could someone be that stupid but also be in all honors classes," is that they couldn't.

Wow. That is about as dumb as Al Gore saying he invented the internet(which he never actually said, btw). I am pretty sure he is just yanking your chain. I pull shit like this all the time. Though I am much more subtle about it.

To be fair, paper can be made out of silk. It was used to print maps on in specially marked Monopoly boxes which were then used by British POWs to help escape.

I find it funny that people are saying you are either stupid or have your head up your ass for not noticing he was trolling you... except they dont know this guy, him being a complete fucking moron is just as likely as him having trolled (I assume that if he were trolling he would not be constantly doing so and would, on occassion, say something that would lead you to suspect he wasnt a complete idiot.) so claiming outright that the guy was trolling is a tremendous display of ignorance and arrogance.

EDIT: This is the reason I dont accept trolling as an excuse, its like the "I was joking." defence. Any idiot or racist can spout whatever they like and pretend it is whitewashed if the people around them dont agree by saying they were trolling or joking?! You said something wrong and/or stupid and/or offensive and now you have to deal with it... simple.

High school is a joke anyways. I'm sure honors classes aren't any different.
Don't feel badly, my friend. In my opinion, education only reflects intelligence to a small degree. On the same note, I don't think that just because someone gets their facts mixed up (and I know those were REALLY mixed up) doesn't mean they're stupid.

Getting straight A's on a test doesn't mean your intellegent.
Trust me, it's not the truth.
But this guy is either trolling or being the most stupid idiot which existed.

Well...my classmate said that Lucy (the ape) was alive and kicking 1974. THE BEGINNING OF HUMANITY!

This reminds me of my sisters Ignite program (I'm guessing it's the same as your honour classes). Some of the kids that got in there were incredibly stupid when it came to common sense. There's a difference between interllectual smarts and 'street' smarts. If you ask me, street smarts are more useful and important.

Having no common sense doesn't mean you can't do good on standardized tests.
Pretty much this.

Exams are a test of memory, not intelligence. (at least in secondary/high school anyway)
It depends on the class really. History, Government, Economics, Anatomy, Biology, yes they are a test of memory. Calculus, Physics, Chemistry, all require a little bit of memory and a lot of problem solving skills, at least the way they're taught at my school they do.

I actually buy this theory that the OP is, in fact, trolling. About trolling. In fact, I've narrowed this down to two possible conclusions:

Either:

A. The guy was obviously joking and the OP is an idiot for taking him seriously.

B. The OP is obviously trolling, and we are idiots for taking him seriously.

I'd have to say that he's messing with you. He is definitely messing with you, I can without a doubt say that that kid is not stupid. The fact that you think he is even when he said, "He also claims that Bush invented tapeworms, which he believed produced silk, which he believed was used to make paper., if you didn't believe that he was trolling you at the point I would have been shocked.
