Maybe it's because I'm too close to the tv, but I find the controls a tad finicky. That said, they're certainly worth it, as they open up much more interesting combat possibilities: every single enemy needs to be attacked a certain way, so you need to plan your attacks.
I've just finished the first boss fight now, which was great. I haven't really felt challenged by a 3D zelda game since Majora's mask, but this is definitely bringing back the need to really think about how you fight. It's great.
Plus the graphics are fantastic for the wii; there's some very clever use of depth of field, blur, and the textures are often kind of washed looking, so instead of looking low quality, it looks like a watercolour painting. It's a very neat way of getting around the limitations, like wind waker before it.
