G'day from sunny London and Happy 4th of July to our American cousins. Who actually uses this day to celebrate our rough and painful break up. You know you don't have to celebrate our divorce like that. We still think about you at night and during war times. Remember Iraq and how we were great together? Aaah the memories. :)

*clears throat* Funny thing about phones. We can never seem to put them down even when the call has ended. I remember growing up, mobile phone weren't even needed unless you were an adult and have a business but now things have changed. As we all have smart phones today, more and more of us find it hard to do without them and often forget the times where we really didn't need them. Times have changed as I have said. However, the main question is, how long can you go without looking at your phone? 5 mins? Half an hour? An hour? A whole day or even a week.

Think deeply about this cause many may start to release how often we look at our phones. Fear of missing out or just a load of nonsense. Let's find out.

EDIT: This also includes tablets too cause that is also a portable mobile device. I was going to put it in the main post but I wanted to be kind.
i dont own a mobile phone or any mobile communication device ;)

I only really text one person regularly and aside from that I talk to my parents anywhere from once a week to once a month. Honestly, the last time I accidentally forgot my phone I felt oddly liberated for the most part. Granted I was also worried that my car would decide to roll over and die that day...

For strictly phone functions, I could honestly go without it forever. I don't text much, calling's only for emergencies, and the occasion is very rare when I absolutely must use the mobile internet to, say, check my email for some address or something.

Now I use it a lot for other functions, like checking time, watching movies, listening to music, etc. etc. However, those can be easily supplied by other devices, so I could do without it easily.

I have an old flip phone, I barely use it to begin with. I make the occasional call or text, or use it as a clock, but rarely do I do that. When I'm at home it is absolutely useless to me since I have access to a home phone, laptop, and gaming systems.

So if there was a poll option, I would say, a long time. That being said I usually never leave the house without it, but it never gets used anyway.

Well honestly I check my phone about every 10 minutes. For time, because what if people need me, or to read books/listen to music. It's just sort of ever present in my life. I've lost it on occasion and it's almost scary how dependent I am on it for entertainment.

If I'm not busy then not very long. I play with it and text people constantly when I'm bored. It's how I get in touch with my boyfriend considering I barely use Skype.

When I've got nothing better to do, I'd get bored after about an hour or so. If I'm public it's so bad I get horrible panic attacks if I'm not listening to music or playing on my phone so I don't have to deal with people. I've been like that before I had a phone though. The thought of travelling to work without my phone is pretty horrific.
D: Crikey.

...Then again, if my phone had Tetris on it...eh, who can say. I'd probably bring it out a lot more often, at least. The thing's little more than a brick with a battery ATM.

Unless somethings going on in which I need my phone for communication or someone's calling me, I tend to mostly ignore my phone. It's constantly set to vibrate. So it rings i don't hear it I feel it. and then if it's against a body part i start getting really itchy on that body part and it's annoying. I check my phone once a day. maybe twice unless i'm expecting a call or a text about something important (like an appointment reminder or my mum calling/texting about something). If I had a house phone people could call, I'd probably be able to go a few months without my mobile phone though. Unless I'm bored at an appointment or something and have finished the book I brought with me without bringing a backup and then I pull up my books on my phone.....I'm more connected to books than I am technology.

I can quite happily go without my phone and email for extended periods. I actually tend to find being constantly reminded that people are trying to contact me very stressful (I hate voicemails with a passion and will often ignore them until they delete themselves, unless I'm waiting to hear back from a job interview or something). I just feel pestered. I actually had to turn email notifications off on my phone because I really don't want to be thinking about the fact that my boss/tutor/parents just emailed me when I'm trying to have a good time or even just go about my daily errands.

I switched my phone off completely for about three weeks a few months back, and it was bliss.

The internet in general on the other hand though... nope. I get antsy without internet access, even if I'm not constantly using it. It's my primary boredom buster, but most of all I hate not being able to look stuff up as soon as it pops into my head. My mind is constantly throwing questions at me (what's the etymology of that word? What are the biological differences between a rabbit and a hare? Do they have baby changing stations in men's bathrooms? What are the lyrics to "I've Got No Strings"? etc, etc, all day every day. I swear it's like having a hyperactive four year old living in my brain). It takes a powerful level of distraction (basically hiking somewhere far, far away from any significant human population, or doing something else very physically challenging) to switch that off.

I only use my phone for music and the last thing I want to do is talk to people, so... a good while.
