It took me about a year or two. I came here for ZP originally, but I wound up getting sucked in more and more by articles and other videos, (Movie Bob etc). Eventually I took a peek at the forums, and I was pleased to find they were really similar to another forum I used to frequent years ago, so I joined up.

About 4 months, I went through all of Yatzee's videos, then lurked here, then lurked some more, then said 'balls to it' and made an account. Because these were the first forums I lurked on where my head didn't instinctively connect with my desk from sheer stupidity of the comments, and the volume of the stupidity.

So, after a year of sitting on the Escapist porch, I've decided to enter the house. Honestly, I don't know why it took me so long to join but it's a slow Saturday and I had nothing to do :/

My question is this; How long did you creep around the Escapist before making an account?

I apologize if this has been done before, but I'm curious.
Maybe a week or two. I'm a forum type person an I always have at least one forum on the go. I estimate my life post count across all the forums i've visited to be somewhere about 15,000 or maybe a bit more. No prolific, but certainly persistent :)

Its funny you say that because these are the most immature forums i've been a part of before. Though admittedly all my past forums have even been serious tech forums or very small community based forums.

I guess the escapist does have the highly proactive moderation thing going on which helps keep down the worst of the internet stupidity.

Probably about a year or so...

I wasn't sure I'd be into the site enough that I'd need an account. But eventually, I gave in.

I enjoy socialising over the web, so it only took me a couple of months

It was probably about a year or so, and then I just read a really interesting forum post and decided I wanted to reply.

I found the escapist because my friends made doomsday arcade, so i basically sat around watching that untill the season final and then decided to join. Good choice on my part!

Lurked for about eight months, then made a profile and posted a few days after that.

A VERY LONG TIME

I was around watching videos and stuff and I often went in and read threads but thought that I don't want to write anything because everyone will just beat me down and start flaming and shit. Then I noticed there was none of that and decided to join, also becuase there was a discussion I really wanted to join, it was about quitting World of Warcraft and someone had the exact same reason as me and so I felt I had to quote him and tell him that he was my Warcraft III brother!
After that I just kept posting.
Welcome by the way, hope you enjoy it.

I don't really remember, when I did start posting it was a while before I posted regularly anyway

It did take me a while. I really do not know what the exact amount was, but then again I really was not creeping on the Escapist. When I first came to the Escapist, I thought it was a sort of Youtube type place, as this is where I found a ZP review for Batman. After a bit, I found Unskippables, and I figure at that point I started frequently visisting the Escapist. I suppose I stayed on the Escapist for about a month or so, before I decided to sign up just to get the badges for watching so many Unskippables.
Funny that badges are what finally drew me into signing on, though I will say that seeing the different badges did lead me to check out different articles and video series that I rather enjoyed including: There Will Be Brawl, Doomsday Arcade, Apocalypse Lane, and Stolen Pixles.

I watched 3 episodes of ZP and made my account the next day. I don't think I posted anything on the forums until sometime after and even now, I prefer to just use the FaceBook plug-in to comment on stories and videos, but that's just out of laziness.
