i mean how difficult is it.you have light sabers to chop limbs. thats gameplay right there. you have force powers so you can also make magic combat. you have force jump so none would complain if you made double jump power. force unleashed seemed to be going in the right direction. alright visuals. okay force powers. shitty sword chopping. force unleashed 2 improved the sword game play but alas it ended after like 6 levels. how hard could it be. people would buy these games and enjoy them just for the philosophical jedi cut scenes. just for character design of jedi robes. my favorite is still jedi academy which i have to return to several times a year because there is just nothing else. stupid world. no good startwars games. no good lord of th rings games. no good spider man games

Lucasarts went a bit loco around 2005. They canned Knights of the Old Republic, Dark Forces/Jedi Knight, Republic Commando, Battlefront, Rogue Squadron, and all so they could what, release tie-ins to that animated Clone Wars show and Star Wars Kinect? I guess there was still Empire at War, but that's pretty much it. (Aside from the already-mentioned Force Unleashed games, which themselves weren't well-received either.)

Maybe with Disney in control they'll be able to get back on track. But Disney has never really been too concerned with things that happen in the video gaming space. So I wouldn't hold my breath for one.

The thing with the Star Wars universe is that it's very much tied to certain truths, like Luke, Vader, and Palpatine being the most powerful force users ever and technology generally being able to keep up with most of the space wizard shenanigans.

Jedi Outcast and Jedi Academy are likely the closest you'll get to what you want gameplay wise.

Well, if you're lucky, the Star Wars Battlefront 3 under development by DICE will be a good Star Wars game. From what I hear it has a release date in late 2015, just like every other AAA game for current-gen consoles. If that isn't lightsabery enough for you, well then I think you're S.O.L. for the time being. Give the devs/publishers time to make movie tie-ins for the new Star Wars films, which you know are coming. There's no point denying it. I also feel they shouldn't be dismissed just because they're movie tie-in games. I'm giving Disney credit enough for that unless they only make Disney Infinity exclusive stuff. You could also go to GoG or something and get an older Star Wars game that was good.

EDIT: There's also LotR: Shadow of Mordor. Lots of excitement for that if you buy into such things. As for Spooderman, don't hold your breath. As long as Sony's holding the reigns that franchise is fucked.

Since when are those force users the most powerful force users ever? Didn't Darth Plagueis create life with the force? That's just one out of the millions of force users that have existed. Starkiller seemed to show a pretty impressive affinity with the force too.

We haven't even seen Yoda in his prime yet. That would be interesting to see. In fact, with the ones you mentioned, we saw none of them in their prime at all. Luke had only been a Jedi for a short period in the movies. Vader was heavily disfigured and clearly lost much of his potential when that happened. Palpatine was also getting old and had been damaged quite heavily.

"How long must we wait for a good Star Wars game?"

Just as long as we have to wait for a good Star Wars film.

I.E. forever.

Who knows? It could be a very long time until someone with the proper talent comes along to whip together a quality Star Wars game. Years ago I would have said DICE could easily churn out a great Battlefront game, but nowadays...after Battlefield 3 and Battlefield 4...

Not really filled with confidence. I'll put it that way.

You know, that pic always went weirdly well with the Duke Nukem "Grab Bag" cover and ever since I saw that pairing(after Dale's Marital Dance) it's been inseparable to me. seriously, try it out:

As for the original topic, we already had a few good ones(Dark Forces series, KOTOR and KOTOR 2, Jedi knight series, Rogue Squadron trilogy, Republic commando, the Lego games, Battlefront series, etc) but a good MODERN Star Wars game? Pal, I'm right there with ya. The Force Unleashed games were total letdowns for me, Star Wars Kinect was a joke, and since 1313 got cancelled my hopes for a good one are running thin. DICE might do something neat with the new Battlefront, but I'm still pretty irritated by what seems to be the notion of a full reboot of a series that didn't really need a reboot in the first place, so it's gonna fuck with my filing systems again. The fact that a lot of the studios that made good Star Wars games have been shuttered doesn't help either. And frankly, I'm still waiting for my Zelda-style Jedi game.

Well, the license is expensive apparently, which is why Sony claimed it needed to kill "Star Wars Galaxies", I think that is why you see so few games being developed right now. Not to mention Disney bought the rights and is still working on what it's going to do with them, video games have generally seemed to be low on their priority list, and odds are with all the money they paid to get Star Wars they aren't going to be handing out use of the license easily.

To be fair if you liked the single player "Knights Of The Old Republic" games, the MMO isn't bad, it functions fairly well as a single player game and I binge on it occasionally, it's probably the best thing put out there recently, even if it was disappointing compared to what it could have been (and to be fair it has improved since launch).

I believe there is a new Lord Of The Rings game (something about playing a possessed Ranger) coming out at the end of the month, I haven't paid a lot of attention to it so far. Spider-Man seems to have largely gotten a raw deal on video games, he has stumbled upon some good ones, but as a general rule it seems games featuring him inevitably fail. Oddly the only super hero I think has gotten particularly good games recently is Batman. Some of the ensemble Marvel games (Ultimate Alliance, X-men Legends, Marvel Heroes Online) are decent and some let you potentially as Spidey but they aren't very deep.

That said, I expect when the first new Star Wars movie hits there will be at least one movie tie in game, since Disney does seem to like those. Odds are it will be beyond terrible, but hey... cross your fingers... :)

Palpatine was the culmination of the Rule of Two, with each generation of Sith getting stronger than the last. We also saw him cut down 2 masters in as many seconds, defeat the strongest member of the council, and was only bested by Windu whose powers revolve around defeating dark-side users.

Vader had a higher midichlorian count than even Yoda, not to mention spent most of his adult life hunting down other force users.

Star Killer's main claim to fame was pulling a falling Star Destroyer down faster than it already was(they can't do atmospheric flight). Impressive, yes, but not that great compared to people who can crush stars and become force gods.

Luke...let's just say he gets ridiculous by any standard after episode 6.

We had a very good Star Wars game in 2003. We haven't had a good one since, mind you, but a good one exists and kind of invalidates this question.

I'm not sure it will be anytime soon. When Disney bought Star Wars... I figured we wouldn't see any good games for years. Disney has to do something with the franchise in MOVIES before it can determine its value for selling a development deal for a game or funding an in house dev team make a game. They'll probably work out tv or web content with Netflix before getting on game deals.

Not sure I've played a good SW game since Knights of the Old Republic 2. And even then it had to be heavily patched and modded before it was really any good. And Lucasarts was done a while before that even (sad because they used to make tons of great games.) As far as Star Wars goes... a good game (or at least something equal to X-Wing/Tie Fighter, KotOR, Dark Forces... any of the really good ones, it might be years after the new movies before we see anything that good.

What have you done to me, Val? Now I won't get that ridiculous tune out of my head for days.

You've destroyed my sanity. Hope you're happy.

[sub]And yes I too agree that there've been a number of good Star Wars games already. Not sure I agree with every one that you listed but I do for at least the vast majority.[/sub]

Hehe.... and now you KNOW! And to make your sanity break down even further, I know people who do that IN REAL LIFE

[sub]As for my list, I pretty much just listed the ones I have fond memories of. Some are waaay better than others, and many are built for vastly different audiences, but I found something to like about each entry. It was pretty much my list of Star Wars games that I considered worth playing ;3[/sub]

Yes. Now I do, indeed, know your plight.

And curse those who do that in real life. Curse them to the deepest pit of the abyss.

As for your list, I didn't say I disagreed with liking them, just that I don't view some of them as great or good. That does not, however, mean I didn't like playing all of them. (hint: I did. ;D) So chalk them up as fond memories for me as well.

I still hav'nt forgiven them for not allowing Obsidian to make Knights Of The Old Republic III and instead letting Bioware make the MMO. Also keep in mind Disney has signed an exclusive deal with EA to make all Star Wars games and i dont trust EA right now.

Why wait? There's a HUGE back catalog of Star Wars games out there, many of which are awesome (or at least decent). A few titles like Tie Fighter and Jedi Outcast are some of my favorite games of all time.

... probably had something to do with Bioware making the awesome first game and Obsidian's attempt giving us the hair-pullingly terrible second game. The one so bad that parts of the writing and voice acting were literally unfinished? It was basically that year's version of Alien: Colonial Marines, not really surprising they gave the contract back to the original team or some approximation thereof.
Actually, LucasArts is to blame for most of that. They forced Obsidian to rush the game out early, resulting in tons of content left on the cutting room floor (most of which has been restored thanks to this mod [http://www.moddb.com/mods/the-sith-lords-restored-content-mod-tslrcm]).
