I've played the first 90 minutes or so, and am not liking it much.

IMHO: The story is shit, the driving requires no skill, gunplay isn't challenging, & the humour isnt funny to me.

I don't like SRIII's humour so far for the same reason I don't like slapstick, there is no subtlety. The humour is too"HEY LOOK AT ME I'M ACTING REAL WHACKY HERE!!!!" sledgehammer to face kind of stuff. So, have I seen pretty much what the game has to offer by the 90 minute mark? Or does the humour and gameplay change later on?

cheers.

edit: just want to emphasize that this is IMHO, if you like the story/gameplay/humour, that's great.

If you don't like it now you won't like it later. It's just more of the same only easier later on.

I gave it a bit over an hour.

Got bored.

I agree with the "trying too hard to be whacky" thing.

If slap-stick isn't your preference, Saints Row probably won't get much better for you. It's a game that's definitely not for everybody. Large weaponized marital aids are a good indicator.

Personally, I think that Saints Row 2 was the best in the series; having a more serious grounding to off set the wackiness. Still, the game doesn't change radically; If you don't like it now, you won't like it later. You gave it a fair try and it's okay to play something else.

I sort of enjoyed it, but if you're not having fun in the first few hours, you're probably not going to start.

It's a hit or miss sense of humor.
Combat is easy/non-challenging.

Co-op is really fun but solo it's a bit boring. I agree with you about the humour. I admit, I chuckled at one or two moments but overall it's just trying too hard.

Saints Row 2 was a great game, not much better in the gameplay department but the atmosphere and story was amazing. It was genuinely funny at parts, and sad at others. It kept a grounded sort of feeling.

If you dont like it so far just stop now. It gets far far worse the farther in you get. The gameplay only gets easier and the story and jokes get more and more pathetic. Its also one of those games where once you get past the twenty minute mark or so it stops introducing new stuff.
Okay this simply isn't true. You may not like the game, and that's fine, but the later stages introduce tonnes of "new stuff".

I'm more tolerating the humor than enjoying it, but I really like the game. It stabilizes after you rescue Zimos, and then it's a standard sandbox game except it's significantly more colorful and interesting.

It'll probably take about 40 hours to 100%, from my estimates, which is better than Just Cause 2's 800 hours.

Although if it's the HUMOR that's bothering you, I question your decision to purchase a game where the marketing was based around the four-foot dildo bat.

You've already played it too long. I beat it out of pure hate and bitterness, at 90 minutes, you arent far off from beating it yourself.
the game is total shit and i hate that i payed for it

Trade it in, this game obviously isn't for you.
Not an option I'd wager. It's my Summer Steam Sale regret (there is always one). More fool me, I bought all the DLC and paid $24. What a waste.

I like slapstick though, Laurel and Hardy, Buster Keaton, Harold Lloyd, the Marx Brothers, Jacques Tati, that shit is gold. SR3 isn't very good at, well...anything really.

Uh the first couple of hours are the best part so if you don't like those then...... get Saints Row 2 it is much more serious and has much better characters.

if you dont like the humour your screwed. for the record the game is incredibly easy, you could try uping the difficulty but if you dont like the humour and or outrageous missions you bought the wrong game.

Saints Row 3 really only takes about 15 (or even less) or so hours to 100%, it really boils down to whether or not you're screwing around. I screwed around a lot and mostly drove every where (flying is the way to go) and I did it in about 17.

OP: A bit confused as to the criticism of gunplay isn't challenging and driving doesn't require skill...do any of the sandboxes require driving skill or challenging gunplay? Really an odd criticism when the other games in the genre don't do it either.
