None. Why the frack are you people compelled to move the thing while it's running?

It shouldn't be that easy to do.
They intentionally made a faulty machine :/
You're being stupid. This is basically an inescapable problem with disc trays in general, if you rotate it while it's working the reader is likely to come in contact with the disc. Sure the old 360's are faulty machines, but the fact that it scratches the disc if you move it is not a fault.

If you don't believe me and happen to have a desktop PC with a disc tray you should play a CD in that and while it's running tip it over.

In rare bits of proper functionality, none of my 8 360's ate any discs. They all bricked, though.

Don't get started on the, but you must've stored them foolishly, or they're in a poor environment. No, the system is just flawed and I have, therefore, gave up on them.
To have destroyed 8 you must have been doing something wrong or are among the unluckiest creatures in the entire universe. I've only personally heard two 360's breaking (mine because it was dropped and a cooling fan broke, my friend's because he was stupid enough to put it in the middle of the floor during a LAN party). Also, you were just asking for someone to say this by specifically requesting that no one say this.
what sort of backwards psychology/conspiracy theory shit did you learn? it was a simple instruction because (lo-and-behold) people always say just what you did.

drop it, the machines stink much like failure, you aren't going to convince me. first hand accounts of poor manufacturing isn't going to be swayed by 'you're doing it wrong'

Whoever does the tango with their xbox and doesn't expect something bad to happen needs to be shot in the face.

That said, I tried to re-adjust my xbox while playing a game. Goodbye, Splinter Cell: Double Agent.

None, I tend not to move the console, and I always keep it lying flat. I can't imagine anyone thinking it would be a good idea to turn a DVD player on it's side, and I'm not going do to it with a $60 disc in it. That and not moving it while it's on seems to take care of the problem. I should probably take the disc out before I move it while it's off as well just in case it gets jarred loose while in transit, but so far after almost four years I haven't had any problems with the system.

My Xbox360 has ruined 4 games. Two of which were my beloved Gears of War.

Don't own an xbox but I have 3 friends who do who killed a game at least once each from moving it while the disc is spinning.

Just one. Halo: Reach. My cat jumped on the console, shifted it, and the disc flew into the console and became stuck. It was completely unusable, and I haven't gotten around to buying a new game yet.

None but it takes about 2 or 3 tries for a disc to read. It may be dying on me.
Same thing happened to me. Yeah its dying youll have to either pay 100 bucks to get it fixed or do what i did and trade it with a friend who mods xbox's for a non modded one thats harder to mod. great trade. I got to stay legal and he got a cheap and easy xbox!

Only one and it was a friend's copy of Star Wars: The Force Unleashed.
I reimbursed him with the Sith Edition though.

And a DVD drive in a laptop can handle being moved while reading or writing the disc. i would complain to MS because if it cant deal with being moved while running then its a faulty drive.
Most laptops (and external ROMs) are built with either tray-loading [http://www.istockphoto.com/file_thumbview_approve/4315108/2/istockphoto_4315108-laptop-open-cd-dvd-rom-drive-tray.jpg] or slot-loading [http://www.bixnet.com/insllonosldv.html] designs (which keep discs firmly set in place) due to the fact that they're intended to be mobile.
Pretty much any stationary ROM (desktop internals, consoles, DVD-players, etc.) use the following tray-loading design [https://www.consolewerks.co.uk/catalog/images/ps2_cd_tray.jpg] because the unit is not intended to move while in operation. Reasons for sticking with this design include cutting cost and wear and tear on both the drive/tray itself (more moving parts) and the disc (being inserted or removed generates extra force on the disc on the first slot-loading image I linked). It isn't a faulty drive, it's simply the way it's designed because they're assuming you're not moving the bloody thing while it's reading/writing.
