Funny story: When I was young I wanted to buy SO many games, but I could never afford to. Now I am a grown ass man who works three jobs and has enough money to buy all the games I wanted as a teen, even at ridiculous "collector" markups. But the downside is I now have no time to play any of them. So I own like 200-300 games, possibly even more. I'll maybe play ten games this year, and beat three of them. I'll never be able to catch up. Especially since I keep buying new and old games.

My roommate on the other hand buys a game, beats it, trades it in for store credit and repeats. I'm starting to think he may be a bit smarter than me.

But then I look at my copies of Lunar and Lunar 2 and get stoked.

Too many is where you run out of physical space to keep them. Thanks to digital distribution the number of possible games you can own without them being such a physical hindrance has gone up.

That or your buying so many your beginning to have money troubles because of it.

When I was a kid I traded in almost my entire collection of N64 games and a couple Genesis games so that I would have the money to buy a Gamecube.

I highly regret that decision today. My only solace is that I kept Mario Kart. That game's awesome at parties.

When you truly think about skipping grocery to buy the latest release? What a stupid question. I don't understand why you think (judging from your post) that having game is a detriment to your social life. There's people with 8000$ of macro machine. People with house full of Simpson's merchandise. Last I heard, there's collector with 15 000$ collection ranging from Pepsi and Coca-cola bottle to old calendar.

If you really need to say something because your friend wonder why your house is stack like a Gamestop, just tell them that your a collector. Hell, I've seen a copy of Mario Bros 3 unpack at 199$ for sale. Just... don't think that every game are going to make you that kind of profit.

I'm sorry but I have to agree with foolkiller here.

I have a few hundred games that are kept in 1 closet.

My cousin has a few thousand games which he dedicates his entire basement to. So you don't have to scan all the games to find a certain title he has every game he owns hand written in ABC order inside notebooks.

Or it could mean you're a gamer? Or a collector? Having too many games doesn't mean you're an obsessed freak, y'know.

Due to just recently getting a job I've suffered from a massive flow of games which I missed back when I was in College.

Lots of games are great but you better have the time to play them all; lest they consume you!

It becomes too large in a few ways, when it is a burden to afford the games, they start to take over your life completely, the burden of storing them interferes with your life, and most importantly you have more games then you can sit through, play and enjoy. If you can't sit through a game and play it at whatever rate you play through them to enjoy it, then you have too many. If you can't play through every game you have then you have games that will just sit and never be touched/played and by result you have too many.

I currently have too many games. Even though I have undr 100, im just not getting though them all. So ive decided to stop buying games till I get through them. I dont like going from game to game, I like the feeling of having nothing to play, then going out and buying new game.

You only have too many games when you can't put a good 20 minutes into each of them.

People have bookshelves in thier homes if they read alot of books or had similar storage for video libraries so the same would apply for videogames of the material type.

Unhealthy obsession doesn't have anything to do with the size of the collection just what priority it is compared to other parts of your life(Like what happens to certain people on individual MMOs,Farmville or etc.).

I don't like having any more than five. That probably stems for my dislike of having too many possessions, though.
I currently own eight Xbox 360 titles, around eight Gameboy Colour cartridges and a few indie games on the desktop. I would prefer to have them all in digital copy, to be honest.

For you... perhaps. For me, I am quite comfortable in the number of games I have. The spare time I lack is the problem.

A hundred, two hundred, a thousand... Two thousand? When does your game collection enter the realm of being simply too large? Is it possible to have too many games?
It becomes too large when you reach the point that you haven't completed a significant percentage of them. A significant percentage to me is enough that you know you haven't beaten them all. It varies by person though.
By that argument mine would be too large. I just look at it as an investment in my future free time. I used to work at a video game store and I bought way more than I have time to play because I could get them at a fraction of what they're worth.

...Too many? I don't think that's possible. At least for me. There is no single place to hold my games so there's some in my room, my brother's room and the front room. All together about 300, I think. ...And still growing.
Though if there's a game we won't touch again and it's just there, trade it in for something better or money.
