OT, 1 at the moment, but I respond to my messages very quickly.

I've had a total of about 60 or so PMs today and a few quotes. Same as everyday actually.

Except for the group conversations, that I have no interest in I delete them.

Never more than 8 at a time, usually when I check first thing in the morning. Right now, zero.

0. Every time I get a notification, I read it. I turn off group notifications for the chats and all because of all the people with thousands of notifications because they have chat notifications on for like 20 different user groups. I never actually got into those and I'm thankful because that's insane.

But as for my email I've got 1705 unread messages.

EDIT: And the most I've ever had is around 10. I frequently check my account and even when I post something controversial (which rarely happens but when it does... ugh... flooded inbox with 7 different people's wall of text about why I'm wrong about 3D TV) it doesn't ever get higher than 10. And this is including inbox messages, badge notifications, and friend requests.

I have at this moment 185,730 unread messages in my inbox. I went away for a month and I had like 10,000. I wasn't gonna delete them so I have been just accumulating them ever since. I want them gone

Nearly always zero. First thing I do in the morning is check my messages, and I always read new ones as they come up immediately. I love em.

I delete most of my messages, but the most I've ever had was 683 or someone like that. The number hasn't gotten very close to that since I quit out of a certain group. I won't say which though, I'll just say that I enjoy not cleaning my inbox out of their messages anymore.
