I went to FanExpo which I think is the biggest one in Canada. We don't get too many big names but all the major companies always set up a booth. Marval and DC come. Sony, Microsoft, and Nintendo always set up big booths. There are a lot of people from horror and anime since its all combined into one expo. We get some big names too. Stan Lee came. The guy from Clockwork Orange came. I think Draco from HP is coming this year. Think Nathon Fillian came last year too. Lady who voice Ash is coming this year or cam last year.

In short I don't think its up to par with the likes of E3 or pax, but its big enough, and its fun.

I can't go to the Escapist expo or to any of the expos where my favorite abridgers/voice actors hang out. :/

I might be able to go to the Calgary Comic Con and I might see LRR but that depends on if I can make an arrangement with a friend.

Not a fan of Expo's so I see no reason to go, would love to see Doug Walker, James Rolfe, The Creatures and Ashens live but only if I could avoid their rabid fanbase. Also everyone I know in real life who goes to expo's are try hard Weeaboo's (although obviously that is not an indication of what the majority of people who go there are).

Hmm...I've never heard of that expression before...what would it exactly take for one to be like that? lol

Is it like...someone who isn't that good at being ignorantly Japanophilic or something but keeps trying their hardest to come off that way? How is that different from plain old anime fans who don't think everything that comes from Japan is good because it's Japanese but just happen to like a ton of things from Japan because of their individual merits and may actually have studied Japanese legitimately and don't just spew things they have watched in anime?

It's such a curious thing really. :D

For the people Im talking about I think it is a good description of their character. They are the kind of people who say they know everything about anime and japanese culture but have never heard of Gundam or Neon Genesis Evangelion, their entire experience with anime is watching the 4kids dubs of YuGiOh and One Piece as well as 90's anime such as Pokemon, Dragon Ball Z and Sailor Moon. They shun western animation but for some reason love Tim Burton because aparently its dark and edgy. I tried to recommend one of them Cowboy Bebop (which is my favourite anime) but they stopped watching it halfway through because they thought it was boring, and these are the same people who think Naruto is the Pinnacle of Japanese animation.

So yeah you are mostly correct.

Ah, I see, I see. Evangelion is actually my favorite anime and when I hear self-proclaimed "otaku" respond with a question-mark style look to my mention of it I get a little caught off guard too. :D

Oh and I think they like Tim Burton cause of Kingdom Hearts! XD

I agree, Evangelion is a fantastic anime (apart from the ending, but they are changing that again with remakes) which makes me sad when the only people who I can talk about anime to in real life have never heard of it.

I go to whatever I can get to, which has been quite a few so far, some bigger than others. I love going to the MCM, but my high point was finding a convention going on in Melbourne and getting to meet Kevin Conroy (awesome) and Mark Sheppard (also awesome). Going halfway around the world just to go listen to another Brit talk still bring a wry smile to my face.

Already got tickets to all four days of this year's Eurogamer. At £6 a day, compared to usual price of £12, I figure even if I only end up going to 2 days out of four, I'm not losing out.

I've never been to one because as stated, they tend to always be in the same locations which are extremely inconvenient for me to get to.

I would definitely like to go but only if I had a buddy to go with. Sure, I would meet plenty of new and interesting people there but I'd rather have my own fireteam going in there.

Back to discussing locations, it would be pretty cool for a lot of those big expos to go to a different city annually. Would make the content more accessible to all and you know, spread the wealth.

Never been, don't really intend to. My interest in games is balls-deep, my interest in most of the stuff that gets shown at expo's, and the people who attend, not so much.

Whenever you see videos of them and the general 'look' of the crowd... yeah.
