Of course Reapers get killed or sent back to where they came from but what I mean is How will it end.

Even if you saved the Collector's base for studying and if Cerberus actually had time to develop some "strong shit" it is impossible for Shepard ad the whole galaxy united to destroy the Reapers.

So how will they win? Well the Reapers made one Big mistake...they invaded Earth.

I don't know, I'd think that it would end a bit more like this:

Imagine Shepard in The Doctor's place and it makes a pretty valid ending.

EDIT: Apologies, they're both the same clip. So I guess I agree that the Reapers would pretty much run scared after Shepard talks them down. There's a good reason to reach full Paragon or Renegade.

Shepard makes an awesome speech then sacrifices herself* to destroy the Reaper threat once and for all. Cue massive pyrotechnics followed by a closing scene of the Love Interest looking sad but proud.

There wouldn't be a dry eye in the house.

[sub]*or himself, if you absolutely insist...[/sub]

I predicted one possible ending in another thread -

That Shepard would use an asteroid (or some other large object) to destroy the Charron relay, destroying Earth and the Reapers at the same time, and leaving humanity without a planet, a spiritual cousin to the Quarians.

Although there has been some contention over whether this is the noble, self-sacrificing option (Paragon), or the brutal, practical option (Renegade). Ironically, depending on the motivation behind the action, it could easily been seen as both.

Paragon Shep: Humanity will suffer, but the other races will be saved.
Renegade Shep: Blow it all up. It's the only way to be sure.

Which... actually makes the possibility even MORE likely. I mean, how neatly would that tie things up? Paragon Shep and Renegade Shep both reaching the same conclusion, but for entirely different reasons.

Hahaha never start a thread the second you came to realise how The Doctor would fit pefectly in the stoy without actually explain it properly.

I actually meant there's no way Shepard or any great race can win over that huge fleet of Reapers unless you make some cheesy ending. The most reasonable ending would actually be The Doctor saving the day since they invaded London/Earth(trailer).

Everybody dies, closing the series off so Bioware doesn't get millions of requests to make a sequel everyday.
Technically, that's what should happen. The Reapers are unstoppable according to cannon. Chances are, Shepherd will lose, the galaxy will be enslaved, and the Reapers would have destroyed whatever is left.

But realistically, Bioware doesn't have the balls to end the series this way, so we will likely get a Hoaky Hollywood ending with Rainbows, Fairies, Puppies and Magic Ponies...

... Oh shit I said Magic Ponies. I am going to regret it.

i reckon sheppard will have to make a choice, sacrifice himself, a comrade or doom the galaxy... abit like dragon age origins did except without the "doom the world" choice rather "have sex with morrigan to save your skin" option

I think it should end with all your allies protecting earth then suddenly the Normandy swoops in from out of nowhere with a massive geth army long story short they kick ass but Shepard sacrifices himself to stop the repears so yeah it is basically space helms deep.

The geth could actually be a good force specially if you give them the virus and "reform" them but the reapers are freakig space monsters/starships with technology beyond imagination. Remember that what reapers we fought so far were one a left over one to spy and drift our space and an unfinished lab experiment. The real ones are probably untouchable by anything we have or dream to have in the next milion of years. Take for example the protheans who were thousand of times more advanced than any race in the galaxy and they were pretty much humiliated.

Some collectors will be rescued and debrainwashed/post mortemed and have their knowledge unlocked by the "key" in Shepherd's brain. This extra knowledge will somehow give the galaxy the edge it needs to stand a chance. All the galactic races will come together in one final, climatic battle.

Just when everything seems lost, even with the superweapon or whatever, one of the Reapers will betray its people and open up a way for Shepherd to destroy the Reaper fleet once and for all.

Did you just say...
Actually, if Bioware really want to piss off the entire Internet they should do this...

Helpless Earth Defender [watching as the Normandy rushes towards the Reaper fleet]: Shepard, do you mind telling me what you're doing on that ship?

Shepard: Finishing this fight.

TO BE CONCLUDED IN MASS EFFECT 4. Coming in 2015!

Yeah, some kind of I'm-the-Doctor type speech would be pretty awesome. And I certainly wouldn't say no to a messianic self-sacrifice scenario. Of course, there's no reason they couldn't combine the two.

Oh hey, here's an idea. Shepard gets indoctrinated. She manages to maintain self-control long enough to head-butt the Reapers to death, before finally giving in. The game ends with you being mournfully put out of your misery by one of your companions. If you have a love-interest character, they'll be the one who does it.

But, personally, at the end of the day I'm just a huge sucker for a unapologetically happy ending. So... uh, is the whole "marriage, old age and lots of little blue children" option still on the table?

I think it will go a little something like this:
( Paragon ending atleast )

Shepard manages to convince all the Races in the galaxy to form one large super fleet. They attack the reapers and although they take out a few, they are ultimately defeated. The Reapers heard the survivors together, noting that they are a mix of all the races and species all fighting for one another.

The Reapers praise them for they finally accomplishing what they had set out to do. Create an entity, one goal, many people, putting aside old grudges and differences to help each other. In doing so, they have succeeded where many others have failed. We are given our freedom and the Reapers leave for another Galaxy.

I personally believe that The Reapers want to create peace that they want life to succeed but they are perfecting it. They see that individually, we are weak, but together as one we are strong.

"Realistic", BioWare ending - Shepard gets the trust of every race in the galaxy. Krogans, by giving them the cure for genophage. The Geth, by returning their twisted "heretic" brothers on the right path. Every other, by simply performing some stellar hero stunts like saving the galaxy twice. Even before Mass Effect 3. And then the rachni come in with a gazillion of new ships somehow rebuilt in about two years. And they all join Shepard happily in the decisive battle and sestroy the bad guys. Oh wait, that was in Dragon Age.

Awesome ending - gather every single biotic in the galaxy on one giant ship and make them combine their power to push Haestrom's sun towards the Earth, effectively burning everything to space dust.

(Don't get me wrong, I like Mass Effect very much - far more than DA - and can't wait for ME3. I've just watched too many Zero Punctuation episodes recently and I feel like pointing every flaw of a game just for the sake of sarcasm).

I'd actually like it if that were the case, it'd be far more interesting than the relatively simple "we need living beings to make more of ourselves" approach... though it would also make less sense.

Alternatively, wouldn't say no to some sort of climactic hold-out final battle, but given the Reapers' size, that'd be virtually impossible to accomplish.
In any case, I'm fairly certain Bioware is not going to cock this up, and if they do, I will... um... COMPLAIN ON TEH INTERNETS VERY MUCH!
And then move on.

In addition, I really hope they make full use of the genophage cure and also bringing in the Rachni in a way that it'd actually make a huge difference on the outcome.

Anyways, Mass Effect and Mass Effect 2 were both great, and I've no doubt Mass Effect 3 will be even better. Unlike Dragon Age 2 where they literally just tried something new and different, Mass Effect 3 will be basically a polished condensation of the first two games, that should in theory be superior to both gameplay-wise, while the story and writing... well that's a wild-card, but given Bioware's history, I have no real worries.

My guess leans more towards:

(Paragon) Massive human casualties but also massive respect from every other race (and the chance to stick Shep's middle finger up at the Turian councillor for being such an ignorant pisshead)

Or

(Renegade) The loss of (at least one) majorly featured race (Turian, Salarian, Asari, Krogan, Quarian)

Personally I hope there's like 20 possible endings or something so I'll never get the same one twice.

The team will find a map to the the hidden Reaper King and Shepard will give him a patented awkward forearm punch in the nose.

Then cake.
