I think it will go a little something like this:
( Paragon ending atleast )
Shepard manages to convince all the Races in the galaxy to form one large super fleet. They attack the reapers and although they take out a few, they are ultimately defeated. The Reapers heard the survivors together, noting that they are a mix of all the races and species all fighting for one another.
The Reapers praise them for they finally accomplishing what they had set out to do. Create an entity, one goal, many people, putting aside old grudges and differences to help each other. In doing so, they have succeeded where many others have failed. We are given our freedom and the Reapers leave for another Galaxy.
I personally believe that The Reapers want to create peace that they want life to succeed but they are perfecting it. They see that individually, we are weak, but together as one we are strong.
I'd actually like it if that were the case, it'd be far more interesting than the relatively simple "we need living beings to make more of ourselves" approach... though it would also make less sense.
Alternatively, wouldn't say no to some sort of climactic hold-out final battle, but given the Reapers' size, that'd be virtually impossible to accomplish.
In any case, I'm fairly certain Bioware is not going to cock this up, and if they do, I will... um... COMPLAIN ON TEH INTERNETS VERY MUCH!
And then move on.
In addition, I really hope they make full use of the genophage cure and also bringing in the Rachni in a way that it'd actually make a huge difference on the outcome.
Anyways, Mass Effect and Mass Effect 2 were both great, and I've no doubt Mass Effect 3 will be even better. Unlike Dragon Age 2 where they literally just tried something new and different, Mass Effect 3 will be basically a polished condensation of the first two games, that should in theory be superior to both gameplay-wise, while the story and writing... well that's a wild-card, but given Bioware's history, I have no real worries.
