I did use the search bar, but didn't see anything related. At least, not by page 4 or so....If there's a related thread, I apologise.

I was taking the Escapist survey thing and there was the whole "how often do you...." Bit.

So I got to thinking about my own habits, and I read daily, but sometimes I really don't read all that much. I try and keep up on it, but I'm pretty terrible at it. I'm a fast reader when motivated, but I read mostly for leisure and I get through some books faster than others simply due to interest.

Personally, I like to write, and I find I write more when I'm reading, even if it's not related to the subject at hand. This is one of the reasons I think I really should read more. Plus, I've got a backlog of books I've intended to read and never got around to.

So the long and short is: How often do you read (Books, not just browsing forums and stuff)? How much do you read when you read? Mostly for fun, or obligation? Do you feel you should read more?

And if you want to volunteer anything else, feel free. I'm just curious about people's reading habits.

I don't read as much as I'd like to. However, I also lack the motivation to do anything about it.

Never.
I pretty much only read Cracked articles and some of my sisters manga/comics before I sleep. Tried books, but I lack the attention span to get sucked up in them.

I used to read a lot, but my time is so precious these days. I'm afraid to watch movies because if they're bad, that's an hour and a half to two hours I've wasted. Books are an even bigger problem... I can give several hours to a book before deciding it's just bad... So for me, my lack of reading is just a lack of time. If I had more time to kill, I'd read much more.

Much much much more since I bought a kindle this month, best purchase of the year so far. Reading much more often because it seems much more convenient.

I'll read a bunch, then take a break from it, then spend another month or two reading book after book for fun. I've recently found that modern (1900 to present) Middle Eastern history is actually really interesting, so that'll probably be my next reading fix

I'm a fourth-year English major.

I read a lot.

At the moment, I'm reading Aristophanes's Thesmophoriazusae for my pleasure-reading, as well as Muriel Spark's The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie and Shakespeare's Coriolanus for my classes. Needless to say, my Kindle is essentially my best friend. I read for school, I read for pleasure... but goodness knows I don't need to read any more than I already do.

I read massive quantities occasionally. For example I am 431 pages into Inheritance and I only started around 2 pm today.

Okay, seriously, I envy you. I wish I could plow through a book like that.

I read a lot when I have a book to read. I have a nice amount of non fiction to read but when I am home from classes I don't want to read more non fiction dry stuff.

I tend to read most fiction in 1 to 3 days and I am picky when it comes to what I read. So most of the time I am nor reading or rereading a book.

Because of that I tend to game at the moment, this is also due to my backlog of games I want to finish.

Probably not as often as I should. Most books just can't hold my interest long enough for me to finish reading. I did enjoy the LOTR and HP books so maybe I'm only into fantasy. The last book I got sucked into was Mogworld.

I've been reading a lot recently. I read more since this summer then I've read in the past few years. I read quite quickly, and finished The Hunger Games in one day.

Don't this is all I have done all day. I went to class and read, that is it. Its kind of scary; first you eat and then you read for a few what only seems like a few minutes and then your hungry again, and when you look out side its dark. That is very disquieting.

the only reason I stopped is because I needed to recharge my nook (its like a kindle but less expensive).

Read, I read every day. Now reading a book..... maybe once a year. My brother really wants this one book, I offered to buy it for him today in return for making something for me in his machining class. My Dad quickly shot it down saying that if you can't buy it yourself your not getting it until Christmas, it'll make a good gift.

Now I don't know if he'll make me my thing, which he was supposed to do back in April for my B-day.

And I do need to finish the LoTR trilogy, but with Skyrim, lol.

Still, if I were to sit down and read a book with nothing to do but go to class, I wouldn't have got that far. I can guarantee it.

I haven't been that wrapped up in a book in years.

I'm familiar with the nook; largely due to one of the Penny arcade guys championing it. I was already locked into an Amazon Kindle by then, and so I'll stick with it, but I find any e-reader to be cool. They've actually spoiled me on paper books; Specifically because I love the e-ink readers. I hate reading long things off a computer screen. I can store hundreds of books on a device that still doesn't bug my eyes like a digital screen will.

My Dad recommended me a book he'd heard about on the radio the other day, and my thought process was basically, "Awwww, there's no kindle edition?"

The other benefit is, when my apartment building caught fire and all my crap was flooded, I only had to pay 140 bucks and redownload my collection.

I'm kind of picky when it comes to reading, myself. I keep reading samples and thinking "meh."

Right now, I'm in the midst of re-reading a children's book, namely Lloyd Alexander's The Book of Three, though it's mostly a break between books in the King Raven trilogy.

Funny, everything I've read of late deals with the Welsh.

I don't read books, or novels very often. I do read technical magazines every single day though. I also read text books pretty often as well. I'm an avid reading of several magazines, Natty G's, McLeans, Popular Science magazine etc.

I love reading. When I finish one book I begin another and have since I was about 13, so I guess about 12 years. I've recently graduated to ebooks, and read all the time on my phone and PC.
