£2000 but It was a gift. Hoping it will last me a long time for gaming. It's my hobby so I don't really feel bad about it. Other people spend more on their main hobby in life :p The SSD and graphics cards where most of the cost I think.

It has 2xGTX580'S with SLI as the graphics cards. If OP wants to know that.

I spent about 1600 on this one. That is about how much I spent on the last one also, which was about 4 years ago. Funny how the cost mostly remains the same. I could have probably done this one a lot cheaper, but I wanted to leave myself with a lot of room for expansion.

1400 about from what I recall, this was also 4+ years ago and it runs everything nicely still. Only upgraded the video card recently to a EvGA 560Ti, runs anything I through at it, and I can do all my art and stuff. Hard to beat that.
Upgraded to the same card myself actually, and it is definitely a beast of a card. It sounds somewhat crazy to think about being impressed at the performance it gave me in Source engine games, but when I first started up TF2, CS:S and L4D2, set everything to maximum with 16x AA and AF to boot, and it was still running at an average of about 150 FPS it blew my socks off. My last card was damn good, but that wouldn't have brought it to it's knees.

I stole mine so it was free.

Nah it was about $500 USD. Runs everything I need it to. Granted my speakers are a little crappy but that's my pet Rabbit's fault. She ate the cord off the good speakers...

$550 after MIRs, around $700 including the cheapo ZALMAN 3d monitor I got later, 2 years ago, and have yet to find a game that it can't play (although I can't really crank up the AA up too high on most games). 8gb DDR2, 2.6Ghz Dual-Core AMD, GeForce 9800GTX2, 500GB HDD, 600Watt PSU, DVD Burner, and 3 120MM fans. You may be able to find similar gear still, although it may be cheaper to get newer stuff (DDR3, newer NVIDIA card, etc)

I've put more or less $3000 into this guy over the course of two years. By choice, of course; I didn't really need to make some of the upgrades I did, but they are coming in handy.

i spent about $650 on mine and I've yet to find the game that my system can't run well at max settings. It helps that I already had the OS and monitor and was able to get the liquid cooling for free though. just look for the places that will give you the best deals and you won't have to spend too much money.

Here is the thing OP, you can either go COMPLETELY INSANE and spend thousands of dollars on hardware you will never, ever use, you can go middle of the road and run every thing that exists at pretty much max settings, or you can go el cheapo and just run basic stuff.

The nice thing is about building your own PC is that you can upgrade whenever you want. I recently picked up a 27" ASUS LED screen a few months after building my PC, and now I run the dual monitor thing and I love it. But, you don't have to do that right off the bat. You can get your stuff together and upgrade piece by piece later.

However, word to the wise: do not skimp on ram or cooling. Ram is cheap and having your gear overheat is bad.

I spent 15 000 NOK (Norwegian Kroner) building my pc from scratch including a monitor and loads of software, about five years ago, thats... 15 000 NOK = 1 650 GBP (Great Britan Pound), 2 600 AUD (Australian Dollar), 2 600 US Dollar or 1 900 Euro. Very satisfied with it and I can still run everything at max graphics:)

$900 last year.
It can run every game currently out on max settings, except for maybe BF3. Haven't played it yet.

About NZ$2100 when I initially got it. That was including monitor, keyboard and mouse. I have spent more on it over the several years I have had it. Its had a new case, new CPU cooler, sound card, speakers, two more HDDs (1TB and a 2TB). Latest addition was an extra 4GB of RAM to bring it up to 8GB. I plan to turn most of it into a VM/media server when I do a big upgrade next year and DDR2 isn't going to get any cheaper or easier to find a matching set.

Totally worth it in my opinion. I have had endless use out of my PC including hours and hours of actual work for uni. A gaming PC gives so much more than just a box for playing games.

Current setup is:
Core 2 Quad Q9400 OCed to 3.2GHz
8GB(4x2GB) DDR2 1066MHz CL5
Gigabyte EP45-DS4P motherboard
GeForce GTX260 core 216
Coolermaster V8 CPU cooler
2x 1TB Samsung HDDs
2TB Seagate HDD
Creative X-Fi Titanium sound card
Corsair 750W PSU
Silverstone Raven 2 case

About $700.

If you shop around on Newegg they have do it yourself combos.
Good site ^^

Mine costs $500 (not including the old monitor I got for free) and can run almost anything on max settings currently, but due to lack of an "actual" video card certain games (Minecraft/Magicka) won't run at all

but that'll be like a $40-$60 attachment

And this is why people think PC gaming is expensive. You can't just make a thread like this and not expect all the hardcore enthusiasts to wave their numbers around :)

Mine cost around 400, but that was 3 years ago. You can get a good gaming PC for 300 tops.

$1400 or so, and I did it in spring of this year. It's quite the beast and can run any current game at maxed settings, and I imagine it will be able to do this for a while (mostly due to its absurd amount of ram and beastly graphics card) though when I do hit a graphical wall I'll just put another of the same card in.

I actually built this system mostly for music production, which it also handles in it's sleep, but when it came to time pick out a graphics card I had to go big as I've never had a quality gaming PC and have always desired one. So far the PC world has blown my mind in how it's just better in every way.

Oh, you want to run old school games? Easy, and they can be run with a number of powerful filters that make them look brand new and even put PS1 games in HD (making them look really close to early PS2 games, although in this crazy strechless widescreen I still can't wrap my head around). OH, you want to do it with a DualShock3 using a bluetooth connection and rumble support? Done, easy.

Want epic titles you played on console? Done, cheaper (Sometimes absurdly cheap, all of the GTA games, including IV and the Episodes, for 12 bucks has been my favorite so far), better looking, and if it's a shooter with a way more intuitive interface. And of course some of the best old school role playing experiences can only be found on the PC (along with most of the good, non-japanese, RPGS), not to mention titles like STALKER.

What I think I'm ranting here is basically: PC gaming kicks ass, and if you invest in your rig it will make any current gen console look like a light-bright.

Edit: Oh, and that's 1400 for just the desktop and a good external sound card. I just hooked it into my TV and surround sound system. One thing though, you don't need to spend even close to that much to get a good PC capable of running most current titles, I was just building a hypothetical future PC. Seriously like expect to pay around 500 or less if you build it yourself. Oh, and I built mine myself as well, it's really not that hard although have a good friend who knows how to help you or you risk really fucking something up, and be ready to face error after error after error, but once all of that is out of the way it's the only way to fly.
