In case you've been out of the loop, nVidia has their new lineup of cards - codenamed Fermi - or simply the 3xx series of cards, set for the ever-so specific release date of "march-ish". Providing they make that date, how expensive do you think the Fermi cards are going to be?

I feel with ATI's lower price point that the cards are hopefully comparable. nVidia tends to have their cards overpriced.
They are actually called the GTX480 and the GTX470.

This is because nVidia have released low level DX10.1 only GT3xx named cards under operation rebrand, which has been rebranding 8800GT's for 2 years now. There is basically no real difference between the 8800GT, 9800GTX, the GTS250. Might even make it to the 3 series.

I'd push the boat out and say that nVidia are going to be wanting £350 for a 480, and £275 for a 470. They'll be rare due to manufacturing issues early on, and won't make them a penny.

Specially if they are only as fast as rumoured they are. Because if they are only pushing 10% like i've heard, ATi will just drop their prices on the Evergreen line which will force nVidia to reduce theirs even more, and it'll be interesting to see nVidias financials this year. I don't see them making much money.

I'm not all that found of nVidia since bumpgate. I've had 2 8800GTS die personally, and know of at least 6 more, all the same issue. Just denying the problem existed. Good work.

Unless Fermi is amazing, nVidia have done serious damage to their credibility in the last 2 years, notice the laptops carrying ATi these days... that's not a coincidence. Alienating massive swathes of the high end market as well is never a good way to go, as the people buying the high end tend to sway the lower end lot too
So they're the 4 series now... *facepalm*
My 8800 has been running strong for a long time now and has never given me any trouble. Reagrdless, I hold no "card loyalty". I fluctuate between ATI and nVidia based on price and performance, I was just curious as there's a lot of excitement about the fermi cards.

I guess we just have to wait for them to release and see the benchmarks. I'm itching to do some upgrading it's just a really awful time to upgrade.
To be honest, i don't see Fermi being all that ground breaking. It's so late, hell they even faked up boards to display once, and it's tech designed for months ago to compete with the 5870.

I think ATi have this generation. I think if nVidia somehow do beat them by a margin, it won't be long before an ATi revision.

The best you can hope for is nVidia are competitive and it drops ATis response. I very occasionally get a driver glitch in Windows 7 with my 5870, i have actually had three (four actually, due to SLI) nVidia cards in a row, not through brand loyalty but due to speediness. 5870 was a good jump.
That's good to hear. I've been eying the 5870, but I'll wait until comparably priced fermi cards (if they even exist) come out and compare between them. Hell maybe ATI will drop their 5870 price just to give the middle finger to nVidia.

I dont know but if I have a good graphics card that supports dx11 and can play Crysis with no lag on the extreme settings and 1920 x 1620 (I think its that) resolution, will I need to upgrade?
I certainly hope you're being sarcastic and not genuine, here.
um... I dont know much about graphics card. Im just afraid becuase its brand new graphics card I got that is very very good and now they are already coming out with new ones.
And the upcoming ones look like crap.

You probably won't need to upgrade for a couple of years.
