I don't, in britain people get paid to do the job they do, I'm already paying for the food, its a ridiculous notion to think that I should be giving them extra money just to do there job

Non tippers really infuriated me when I delivered pizza, if you're getting your pizza hot and fresh and I'm out there destroying my car I expect a tip.

The only person that really makes out in the deal is the restaurant owner, not having to pay the driver/server very much.

Never, I went to your restaurant or w/e and ordered my food. You're doing your job by taking my order and then bringing it out to me. The restaurant is paying your wages, why should I pay you more because you did what you're supposed to?
EDIT: If the owner/manager isn't paying you at least minimum wage anyways then you should complain. They have to at least do that.

Don't tip.
You're idiots and have no understanding how either minimum wage laws or compensation works in various service-based industries. Use Google, cause I don't have the patience to explain it to you. Please GTFO and don't let the doggie-door hit you on the way out.
Hey no need to be rude, if waiters don'y like there wage ask for a raise or find another job, why should I be paying for them to do the job they where hired for?

We don't tip in Finland, people get paid enough and it is really complicated because of Laws and Taxes.

Lets see. I usually tip just aroooound.... Nothing. We dont tip in Denmark. Well, if I pay 95kr for two pizzas and I give him 100kr I dont care about the last 5kr and let him have it
EDIT: When I said "Let him have it", its nothing sexual... I'm not gay, no stop. Dont look at me like that *runs away*

The theory of "you're paid to do the job and that's it" makes sense, but that's not how it goes (in America anyway).

If you are a server and you have a single customer ordering a bowl of soup and that's it, and then a party of 8 people comes in and they order several courses, lots of drinks requiring refills....should the server not be compensated extra for the party of 8?

I usually tip around 10% of my bill, or maybe a little bit higher to round the bill to a neat number. For example, if my bill came out to $35.25, I might tip $4.75 to make it an even $40.

I also will usually increase or decrease my tip based on the quality of service I was given by the person. If I'm in a restaraunt and my waiter only comes around like twice (once to take the order and once to give the bill) and the place is obviously not all that busy then I'll usually tip even under my usual 10%.

I recently went to a restaurant that added a 10% tip onto the bill for me to pay.

Now, as the service was great I didn't mind paying, but what if they'd given shoddy service all night? Surely the staff in the restaurant should earn their tip, and not force it out of me.

Tipping has become normal in my country apparently, but I don't really go to establishments where it's seen as normal. I think it's pretty stupid in general though.
Mr. Pink said it best.
Oh, Mr. Pink. So true, so true. My tips depend on the quality of the service I suppose. If I'm treated well and the person seems genuinely nice, I'll tip.

I tip about 10%.

Although, the other day I ordered a pizza and the guy got it there so fast (like, 3 minutes somehow) and was so polite and kind that I tipped him 30%.

Generosity. It makes you feel all warm and fuzzy, but will eventually leave you broke :/

Deliveries, I usually try more for around 20% at the least.

Here's some rules in a restaurant. If you got service, tip 10%. If you got decent service, 15%. If you got good service, 20%. Excellent service can be anywhere above that.

I do not tip. I am not giving someone more money for something that they are already paid to do.
you do understand that most of these people are not paid well. In fact, the majority of food industry workers(some chefs included) have their tips factored in as their actual wages. So the employer just pays the minimum possible(which I think is about 2.50-3.50 american an hour here in the US.) and tips are supposed to suppliment this.

There some places where only the management team is paid well, and the way other employees get livable income in they pool all the tips at the end of the night and split it up.

So no, they are not paid to do their jobs because they are barely paid at all. You are a horrible person for not being generous and I hope you burn for it. (I worked in a place for two years that we were only paid 3.75 for an hour and relied solely on tips for any sort of livable income.)

I myself tip between 10 and 20 percent. Normally it's 20 however if the service is terrible, I will cut my tip in half. I've also been known to increase tip sizes when others whom were responsible to tip barely even place down five percent.

At home in England I don't tip and most are happy with that but when im the US I leave a flat $4 regardless of meal price if only to stop the waiters looking at me as if I just fell out the sky.

usually around 10% more if it was an exceptional service and none if it was rubbish, taxi drivers very rarely get anything unless i am very impressed by them.

So I recently got delivery from Pizza Hut and went to pay the driver. The meal was about 23 dollars. I gave him fourty and asked for ten back, giving him somewhere between six or seven dollars depending on the change. When I did he looked at me in a way were I couldn't tell if he was grateful for the tip or, wanted to shove the pizza box down my throat. So I was confused. I normally tip 15%, and this guy got around 30%. But I'm wondering if 15% is the average for delivery work, it might be more than eating out beacuse they actually have to drive to you. So how much do you tip Escapsit, should I feel cheap?
Ok here is my view on tipping summarised in three rules:

1) I don't tip people who earn more than me. (not so relevant now but when I was a student or just starting out at work this was a big deal)

2) I tip for quality of service and quality of product.

3) I only tip more than the standard 10% if there is an exceptional reason (like a waiter working on valentines day).

Oh and generally, delivery people don't get tips, not from me or my friends anyway. They come to the door with exact change expecting you to give them certain notes and they walk away clearly not expecting a tip... maybe thats just my town, or maybe its just the UK... or maybe me and my friends are tightwads, I dunno
