How much emphasis do you put on getting trophies/achievements?

I notice when I'm playing I try to get as much as possible when I can, but upon beating a game there is still a lot more trophies/achieves I could get. The problem for me is that once I beat a game I feel as though it has reached a conclusion and I am ready to move on.

However lately I've tried to get out of this habit and pump more hours into games to get my moneys worth. But, if an achievement sounds tedious and a huge grind I sometimes don't even go for those unless I really love the game.

So how much of a completionist are you? Do you go for all achievements, simply could care less about them, or get what you can without too much trouble and then move on?

When I was still playing WoW, I put a fair bit of effort into picking up achievements, especially some of the more obscure ones. I like the way Blizzard did achievements - it gives one something fun to do during "downtime", and it's a way of showing off to your friends/rivals as well :)

In pretty much every other game, I tend to ignore them completely.

I care little for trophies. I may try and get one if I have nothing else to do, but I do not have the patience to try and platinum all my games. The only gameI ever got all the trophies for was Mass Effect 2 because I got all the trophies from just playing the game through multiple times.

I try to get trophies if they're actually fun to try and get, and not overly tedious. If I'm only a few trophies away from 100%, though, I might push myself through some of the tedious ones.

If you had asked me before I got a PS3, I would have said I'm not a collector of Trophies, but now that I have one: I find Arkham Asylum's trophies to be the ones that nag me the most, and I'm slowly going to find out how difficult some trophies are to get.

I'll sometimes go for achievements that aren't much a hassle that I won't tear my hair out trying to get. Other than that I just play through the game and whatever achievements I get I stick with. I find it hard to play through a full game twice.

As long as they don't require excessive effort, time or skill, I'll give any achievement a go. (I've gone out of my way in a few left 4 dead games for an achievement, for example) But any achievement that will just take too long or is just too difficult I won't bother with (45 lambda chaches in Half Life 2? No...)

I don't care about trophies, and don't make any attempt to get them unless doing so unlocks something else in the game (alternate outfits, avatar awards, something like that). Most of the time I don't see any point to them.

i'm a pure-blooded completionist. if the game's got achievements/trophies, they become the primary priority for me.

edit: i should probably mention that i don't have a current gen console (PC gamer), so tbh they don't usually come up that often, and that's probably why i like them so much. i suppose if i had any of those consoles or steam, i'd probably be so swamped with them i'd change my tune to match those of others, since EVERY current gen console game has like 50 of them, that might become a little much.

For the most part I don't care about getting achievements, I just try to finish the game. They are really good incentive to go back to games I have finished though.

I only care about achievements when they challenge the player to make the game more challenging for themselves, I'm about to hit a gamerscore milestone (e.g. 10000 points) or I almost have 100% of them. Other than that? In the words of James Bond, "Frankly my dear, I don't give a damn."

I think achievements are dumb, but trophies are great. I strive for trophies but utterly ignore achievements. The main reason for this is: Platinum's. I love Platinum's.

only problem with platinum's is that you have to do all of the incredibly rediculous tasks to get them. For example, i'm 3 trophies away in Batman AA from getting the platinum, but i'm just not THAT good at freeflow

I mean sometimes I go through the trophies before I play and try to go for them, but I could honestly care less. Sometimes I'll go back and try and get trophies but there is just honestly no motivation for me.

I always look at the trophies when popping a game in. If a game is bad, then trophies sure as hell aren't going to make me play it though. I had a ton of fun getting platinums for Uncharted and Burnout and considerably less (but still fun) getting platinum for Prince of Persia.

For the record, I don't buy the whole "Acheivments are just a way to show off the size of your e-peen to others". I'm pretty sure I haven't shown my trophies to a single other person, especially not my mates as they hate em. XP

I try to get achievements whenever I can. It gives me something extra to do when playing a game and can help extend the life of said game before I put it away and never touch it again.

Mind you, I don't usually grind out achievements for the sake of getting them (unless I only need 1 or 2 in order to get the 1000/1000), but if I can go for an achievement that just requires me to play a little differently or do a bit better on a part, I'm gonna get it. It's fun.

If I KNOW I can get it within 30 minutes, I will go for it. If it's something that seems like it would take me hours upon hours to complete, I don't bother with it.

I take a peek at them and see what is doable. If I can actually finish a game these days that is the real achievement.

Myself and a mate have a friendly competition going involving trophies and the PSN score. Generally I'll go through the list as I'm playing and see how many I can check off without going too far out of my way on the initial play through. After that, if I really enjoyed the game, or if I'm only a few away from the platinum, then I'll put some extra time into clearing out the list. I've never forced myself to platinum a game I didn't enjoy.
