About 6 to 7 times what I would need if game programmers were given enough time to optimize code properly.
so what your saying is its to big for most to handle
All cards are wild overkill for what would actually be needed if software was made properly these days.

But otherwise yes, my computer is one big electronic phallus. It makes power companies giddy with excitement.

Whatever you get on a fairly bog standard 2006 laptop.

Not much. But then, I can't afford new games anyway, so I'm free to continue playing Alpha Centauri.

Well, this will be my rig.

Rosewill Future Gaming Case
Antec 650 Earth Watt PSU
Samsung Seagate 500GB 7200 RPm hard drive
i5 2500k
LG DVD Burner
Asrock Extreme 3 Intel Motherboard
sapphire 2GB Radeon 7850

That should give every game released a run for its money.

I have a shitty 8800GTS512. Amazing to see how many games still run smoothly under it.
The 8800 model chipsets are possibly the most robust chipsets nVidia ever made (which is a bit surprising considering the rest of the 8000 series is cack).

ATI's 4870 is similar in the same way... hell you can even run most modern games on above-average settings with a pair of 3870s in crossfire.

You mean if Direct X wasn't such an unwieldy piece of shit or developers were allowed to skip using it and program to the cards directly?

But holy shit those are some beastly fans.
Yeah, there sure are a lot of them. 7 case fans, 2 CPU cooler fans, 1 PSU fan and 6 GPU fans (3 per card).

Ya that pretty much sums it up as well. But there are a few factors at work in there. Take your pick on which one ya list first. :)
