How much make-up is too much?

I'm just wondering because all of my female friends wear make-up, and it's not something that guys tend to remark on. Do you tend to ignore it? Do you think it makes a girl more appealing than she would be without it?

And most of all, how much is too much for you? When her face starts to look like a cake, or do you just hate all make-up in general?

Personally, I wear just as much as in my profile picture- a thin line of eyeliner on the top and some mascara. Nothing heavy or scary looking; just enough to make me look more awake during the day.

What're your thoughts on it?

Generally, if I notice that someone is wearing makeup from across the street, it is probably too much. I will allow an exception for people dressed explicitly for the purpose of catching the attention of others (which often includes glaringly obvious lipstick for example).

But, then, the real answer isn't even that simple. If I notice makeup it is generally because it contrasted with the overall image I saw enough that I fixate on it. So I suppose the real answer isn't a quantity so much as the fashion in which it's applied.

In my mind, makeup is used to point out what's already there, not make up beauty that doesn't exist in the first place.

I really don't like a lot. In fact, I hate it when women wear to much. Call me weird but I also HATE lipstick. I think that's because I'm seriously picky about tastes.

If it's noticeable, then it's probably too much. It's fine for covering up flaws, but really padding it on just looks bad.

Most girls I know don't wear makeup and they honestly look fine to me. I don't mind if someone wants to use it and feel pretty, to sum up what one girl said this morning regarding the same subject, 'I just like putting it on and it makes me feel pretty and sparkly.' (I wish I could say I adlibed that, but I really didn't.)

If some want to wear it, its there choice. I won't care unless you start looking like a clown.

When you start looking like this

Oh dear lawds, why would you scare me like that? What is wrong with you?
Where I live and the college I go to, this is mostly what I see everyday. Its quite terrible.

I know a girl at school who has worn so much make-up and for so long when she isn't wearing it she feels terribly insecure.

That's when it's too much, to be honest.. Teenage girls rely too much on make-up for their "beauty"..

I...honestly don't really like makeup at all.

A little looks alright but when you put so much on that you look like a clown/prostitute/plastic doll, it just becomes too much.

If its so thick theres 2 inches of the stuff before you hit skin, then youve gone too far

Anything other than some light eye makeup and i guess lipstick I don't really like. When it is noticeably thick, I find it distracting. Also I like how skin feels so too much and it feels weird to me.

"Too much" is really when you're trying to emphasize too many things at once. Lips or eyes, pick one (pair, that is). Some light foundation for people who need it and maybe some cover-up. There are a lot of ways to go "wrong" with make up without "too much".

when a relatively oblivious dude manages to notice the presence of make-up, that is too much make-up. SUBTLETY is the key here.
