age shouldn't matter.

I'm willing to date a woman 10 years older than I am. After that, we would have so little in common...

Younger than me: no more than 2 years

I'm in highschool. Generally here for me right now is the rule of two. Either two older or two younger, any bigger difference makes it start to become creepy.

Sounds good enough for me. Even if is a reference to something I don't know or just 'the rule'
While I later found out it's from XKCD (which I should really pick up reading...), it was actually a mate from uni's rule. I hadn't even heard of XKCD until I came to these forums!

oh but the minimum age here = 18 unless you are 15-20 then 15-20 is the range

oh and for the stupid people : 12-13 is to my opinion the absolute minimum on dating age and those ranges are 12-15 13-16

But you probably all knew that right
Surely that's just for sex? Besides, 18/2+7=16, which is legal here! :D

Let's see... 23/2+7=18.5. Sounds good to me :D

OK! New question! When using the XKCD formula, do you round up or down? There comes a time in everyone's life when they stop saying "I'm five and a quarter!". Usually around the age of five an three months.

As long as she is of legal age, the greater the age gap, the greater the bragging rights. And that works for old men and cougars.

[Arbitrary Line 1] to [Arbitrary Line 2]

The question is biased. It implies that there is a point when an age gap is not okay. I take issue with this.

Any age. It doesn't matter as long as:-

a. The two people are happy together. Why should an age gap ruin what could be good for them? To let an arbitrary sociatal repression dictate your life and interfere with your happiness would be silly, and wrong.

and/or

b. The older parter is a terminally ill millionaire.

I have a friend who is in his early twenties, and has a girlfriend in her mid forties. It seemed weird at first but to be perfectly honest I've grown accustomed to it, if a couple love each other I don't see the issue anymore.

I think the idea of trying to impose how much of a gap is "okay" when it's subjective and based on subjective values is all kinda silly really.

I think the limit's around 20, 25 at the very most. I might be kind of bias because my sisters husband was 20 years older than her, and they got on really, really well. Then the police framed him and turned him into a fugitive, but whatever.
Umm...can you explain what he was framed for?
To anwser the question...fuck if I know. Friend of the family is 60 years old and his wife is 25-30 (don't really know). Then again, he is a millionaire horse farmer...

i dunno, ive always felt its kind of a case by case thing, like if i was 40 and my wife was 27, thats a bit of an age gap, but if she was 35, no problem, if im 21, i shouldnt be dating someone 17, but 19 would be alright

It's the 'half your age plus seven' rule. Because it accounts for age differences (three years is a lot when you're 12/15, but 33 and 36 means very little), so simply using a rigid number is silly.

So, for me: 18/2 = 9. 9 + 7 = 16 (the lowest age I can go is someone who is 16)

And the inverse: 18 - 7 = 11. 11 x 2 = 22 (so the highest I can go is 22).

Of course it only works for people aged 14 and over. But at 14 relationships mean fuck all.

all depends.it has to do with reproduction.1-10 years is older guy to younger girl.1-15 for older wemon to younger men.but thats applied to certain ages.now if reproduction is the case it's a whole new story.

You can quantify the acceptable age difference until you find your true love, then it means nothing.

The whole "half your age+2" thing does work pretty well actually. It depends on how old you are and who the other person is and a whole bunch of small variables like that but as a general rule that's not bad.
