Just an idea for a thread, this is effectively a competition. Everyone say one thing about themselves that says they are the alpha nerd. Go!

I don't like the term "Nerd", I feel it is offensive.

That being said, I have a bit of an obsession with Napoleon that I think might make some feel uncomfortable.

My room is filled to burst levels with Kotobukiya, ALTER, Megahouse, and all those other brands of statues. Like, seriously, I have no room left on any shelves. Throw in two impressive Star Wars fleets and several thousand dollars worth of hand-made MLP plushies, and I'm often asked, "Where do you sleep?"

Pretty nerdy. If I went in to all the props my family has, you'd have an orgasm. And I'm talking originals. So pretty fucking nerdy.

'Nerdy' to the point of being more interested in fiction than anything else, but not to the point where I must compulsively buy merch.

I play complex simulation games for fun. The ones without a clear goal or end, you know?

4X games like Stellaris, Sword of the Stars(1), Space Empires(IV), Alpha Centauri, Lost Empire - Immortals, Armada 2526 Supernova, Imperium Galactica(II) and Distant Worlds Universe.
Then we also have such gems as Dwarf fortress, Rimworld, Gnomoria, etc.

If that doesn't make me nerdy...
<spoiler=Spoiler of shame>I'm also a 32 year old virgin without a single friend!

I've played Dungeons and Dragons. Does that count? I'm nerdy in so far as that I enjoy video games, and sci-fi like Battlestar Galactica and Star Trek. 'Nerd stuff' seems pretty mainstream these days. It's nothing special.

Nerdy in that I spend a lot of time consuming movies, videogames, and sometimes comics. I don't wear it on my sleave though; I hardly bring it up with people who I know aren't that into it, and I don't have any posters, figurines, or geek related clothing.

I've spent most of my teenage years playing D&D once a week, and now that I'm 29 will be DMing a party on the 20th. I LARP and have quite the armoury of foam weapons, costumes and armours. I go to medieval/fantasy events. I love everything fantasy. I always keep up to date with astronomy news and the like. I own a proper telescope which I still use every now and then. I like anime more than 99% of western cartoons and have gone to conventions in the past. I've spent most of my teenage years with barely any friends and I have even less now. I build/troubleshoot my own pc's and am the 'tech guy' in my family. I loved DDR and still own a metal DDR platform. And a lot of my free time is spent gaming.

I think I would be considered pretty nerdy... :p

I generally stay away from early access games so I'm sorry to say that I have not enjoyed that game as yet.
Does its basics not conform to the usual formula? Explore, Exploit, Expand, Exterminate?

I take it you've already checked the reddit?
How about Space Sector, <link=https://explorminate.net/?s=stars+in+shadow>eXplorminate and <link=https://www.spacegamejunkie.com/?s=stars+in+shadow>Space Game Junkie?

I know the finer details of warhammer 40k lore and can trace back my affiliation with it way back to the 2nd edition, so only original rogue trader playing nerds can hope to match my credentials there.

o/ I applaud your refined tastes in games.

Hum what else i got..Oh i know!

When normal kids were playing tag and normal kids games, i was reading books. Any books would do, i just loved to read.
If that's the not the truest sign of a nerd in its most pure raw form, i dont know what is.

- I can probably tell you the names of over 50 characters from Planescape: Torment from their character sprites.
- I am adamant in my belief that Ben Sisko is the greatest Starfleet captain in federation history.
- The first video game I ever played was "Jumpman" on my Dad's IBM PC Junior, I was probably 7 at the time
- I have read probably every piece of fiction ever written by H.P. Lovecraft (excluding some of his more esoteric poetry, unfortunately not excluding his more racist poetry)
- I will probably never again experience the simple joy I felt in my many hours playing Wing Commander Privateer

That's probably the most accurate descriptor for me as well...

On a side note I'm curious about the proper definition of the word "Nerd" What does it actually mean?
I recall being told at some time that a "Nerd" meant you had some academic inclination or were an intellectual. A "Geek" meant you were obsessed with Sci Fi/Fantasy pop culture and collectables and a "Dork" just meant you were socially awkward.

Anyone else heard something like that before or is that all just rubbish?

I'm nerdy enough that "gamer" doesn't mean video games.

Also, whenever my friends crack open a new game, they hand me the rules to make sure we play it right. It's been a long 15 years of that.

Even if I've never read it, I'm at least aware of 95% of the tabletop RPG market.

I'm a math major. QED.

All things told I'm a pretty boring nerd. I lack the mania gene that makes nerdity so fun!

Going by the dictionary:

Nerd
1. a person considered to be socially awkward, boring, unstylish, etc.
2. an intelligent but single-minded person obsessed with a nonsocial hobby or pursuit.

Geek
1. a digital-technology expert or enthusiast (a term of pride as self-reference, but often used disparagingly by others).
2. a person who has excessive enthusiasm for and some expertise about a specialized subject or activity.
3. a peculiar person, especially one who is perceived to be overly intellectual, unfashionable, or socially awkward.

Dork
1. a silly, out-of-touch person who tends to look odd or behave ridiculously around others; a social misfit.

The one thing in common is some form of obsession and social awkwardness apparently.
