'Disney is very popular Anime.' What the hell does this mean? Ignoring the bad sentence structure, Steamboat Willie predates anything from Japan.

When OP mentioned hating Otaku, I did the common thing most Otaku's are stereotyped of doing, which is using Japanese words in their English form when I'm not a native speaker, the fact I did it incorrectly adds to the humor (although that was only half intentional). Clearly intended as humor, and taken as such by the other three members of this community who quoted me before you.

This is common practice on the internet, many people say things in jest, and to poke fun at people, and I would have continued to poke fun at your lack of understanding if I wasn't just coming off a suspension.

Regardless of if it was a funny joke or not, it was clearly a joke and not meant to be taken seriously, your debut in this thread took my post way too seriously, and in that regard, you fail at the internet.

I would happily play word games with you all night, but the overzealous dedicated mods might not have seen the fun side.

I also suggest you edit your posts to put something On Topic in them.

Either way, stay classy.

Yea calling it here before attracting unwanted admin attention would probably be prudent, i honestly didn't expect anything to come of it, i was just trying to poke some fun and expected your first reply to be along the lines of "I was joking" or something like that (of course i read the rest of the posts before posting) but hey, it was fun.

Don't worry. It's not that he hates or misunderstands Japanese people specifically. He does that a lot. I'm Irish-American and "Yahtzee", the Zero Punctuation reviewer, constantly displays his overt hatred and racism for many groups with no shame. Kindly watch his review for The Sabotuer and imagine how I felt about him after that.

I have to admit, as half-Irish I had no problems with anything Yahtzee said in that video; he takes the piss out of everyone, and you can tell there is no real malice behind it. In fact I felt bad for the French more. Then again, I was born and raised in Sweden so maybe I'm not Irish enough to feel offence? OT: I confess, I am one who thinks the Japanese are pretty weird most of the time. This is from reading the occasional JET teacher's blog and watching Japanese drama series and anime though, not exactly quality sources perhaps. Thank you for reminding me of the other side of Japan =)

In Japanese, "anime" is just a shortened form of the English word "Animation," and all animated works can legitimately be referred to as anime, regardless of country or date of animation. Also, Disney is good anime in another sense -- what Westerners perceive as the anime art style was heavily influenced by Disney, as well as characters from other companies, specifically Betty Boop.

Edit: This is why I find it hilarious and misinformed when 13 year old anime fans start spouting off about anime and cartoons being two fundamentally different things. Just enjoy your cartoons people, and don't worry about what country they come from.

I have lived just as much in the USA as in Japan. The common Japanese way is to not be rude. Racists will think things to themself but do not say anything. That is why I think Japan has less violence. It is cultural to not confront people.

I don't think there are more racists that think other cultures are truly bad in Japan then in America. Mostly ignorance is a problem since there isn't contact with other cultures like in the states. My home in America is in Madison WI, and I there are nice people of all races living next door.

In Japan the worst is in small towns that people will stare if someone looks different or children will go up to people if they are very tall. I am a woman that is tall in America, let alone Japan so I stand out. I look mostly white and sometimes people will be sort of amazed I speak Japanese well. But if you go to Japan you can expect people to be polite if you have good manners.

Ever notice that we never get RUSSIANS on here claiming that all Russians aren't sociopathic jerks like Stalin? What is it about Japan that gets everybody so up in arms. I have never cared for their culture, but I have a friend who is obsessed with it, and we constantly tease each other, in GOOD-NATURE. Why is it when you say something disparaging about Japan, even playfully, that every one gets so God Damn upset? I love Russia, and Russian Culture, but you don't see me flaming everyone who implies that every one who speaks Russian is a Stalin Wannabe...

I'm pretty sure the label "otaku" means something far more severe than how we use it here in the US.
