I would quote the man to defend Jack and Calumon (nee Catkid) but it appears many of you have already done so. I really enjoy his posts; I will actually go as far as to say that he is (they are?) my favourite poster on this great site. So thanks for tripping over yourselves to beat me to the punch to defend our favourite gimmicky fellow Escapist.
I fully agree with points 1, 2, and 4 though (despite the fact that I am guilty of breaking rule #2 on more than one occasion).
People aren't going to read the rectifications are they?
I'm also afraid I don't see how I've "tripped over myself" when all I did was lack a clear description regarding what I was referring to. The manner in which I mentioned it even falls under the forums posting rules, all of my situations do.
Sorry, I had this tab open before you wrote the rectifications. The "tripping over yourselves" comment was aimed at the other people who defended Jack and Calumon; it's an expression I use to describe over-eagerness in a crowd of people (or in this case, posters). I apologize for any miscommunication.
I had to read it over a few times to see it, but you said things clearly, the phrasing was a bit awkward to me.
I don't like these kinds of threads. Complaining about people on the forums, they give bad vibes and they seem to pop up a lot recently...
Let the mods take care of this sort of thing.
An understandable stance, but I don't feel the "vibe" personally, or see any ramifications, I feel it gets isolated to the thread itself.
I understand your frustrations, yet it seems that the better approach, rather than ranting about what NOT to do, is to be a good example of what TO do.
To that end, to make balanced, well-written posts, and to encourage and support all those others who do the same. There's no point in being combative when so many agree and try to do as you do.
Thank you for writing it all down though, it is good to be reminded sometimes.
I've actually never made a rant before. It's actually kind of nice to have rants, it allows people to post a bit more aggressively regarding negative issues. In the end there's not really a right way to post, but we can all agree that there are a lot of things that just end up pissing people off.
Nice wall of text there. And I was just about to ask why you hadn't included "Don't make wall of texts" as a section. Now I know why!
Also, you're talking about the comment sections for the entertainment videos on this site. They are not supposed to bring out discussions, they are there so people can voice their opinion on what they just watched. Sure, they can be more detailed in what they thought, but saying that if they don't they'll be looked down upon and never ever be taken seriously again is just silly.
Exactly how is it hurting the site anyway? I didn't realize that all our shows were so crap that they desperately needed constructive criticism all the time.
Yes, people should voice their opinions, but clarify your opinion, someone saying that they like food isn't exactly going to help someone plan a menu.
I also feel that you're exaggerating what I said about the way people often react to these posters, but you cannot tell me that when you see a person who's posted "funny" in 50 different video threads is going to be giving a clear and useful opinion, eventually you just won't care.
I find it strange you seem to be so defensive about the sites shows, but you cannot tell me that viewers and their opinions/posts on those videos have not made major changes to the sites videos: Game Dogs didn't work out, Doraleus and Associates (Spelling for Doraleus?) dropped the Harry Potter story line like a rock, and those are just some of the most notable recent ones that I've seen recently, and I rarely look at the video comments section anymore because of the problems I brought up, I can only imagine what subtle things I may have missed.
Also, I had made an edit to include bricks of texts almost the very instant the thread was posted, before any responses had appeared in fact, your post is quite long, so I'm willing to assume that you weren't able to see it before you hit the reply button.
First, see bold & underlined text.
Second, have a look at your post (especially point #2).
Finally, feel free to facepalm yourself.
Thank you for your contribution. Have a nice day.
Please read the other posts and their replies before attempting to say this sort of thing. It's the paragraphs structure and the large amount of bracket explanations I felt that I needed to use to keep my opinion clear. It's all regarding the same issue and the problems that surround it. If you can find an appropriate location to break it off then I'll gladly make the alteration, however despite constant revisions I cannot find one myself.
EDIT: Finally, I fail to see why people keep bringing up the Calumon poster, he's hardly the only person who has a "gimmick", and he at least has intelligent comments to go with the joke, which as stated isn't the "gimmick issue". If I were to confront a poster regarding their form I would state it where appropriate and to them, especially since I've done this before as a person can tell by checking my posting history.
