I am very rarely feel hype for game since a bit cynical when comes to marketing and I am in no rush to buy any games due having a big game backlog. The majority my responses to hype building things at it's highest is "that seems kinda interesting and if hear its a good game after launch then I may buy it at some point"

the only game currently feel a mild amount of hype for is Divinity: Original Sin Enhanced Edition. I already bought Divinity: Original Sin so I will be getting the Enhanced Edition for free. I beat the game already. To me the idea of more content and rewritten story makes me excited to play the game again. The gameplay was already great so more content interests me. Writing wise the game really dropped the ball so a rewriting is sounds nice. This coming from someone who liked the writing in divine divinity and divinity 2.

the last game I remember felling any hype for before this one was Shadowrun: Dragonfall - Director's Cut which also gave the upgraded version for free since owned dragonfall.

I was pretty hyped for Witcher 3 and from what I gather through reviews from friends that also love the Witcher series - it's worth the hype. I'm hyped for Fallout 4 as well. *Most* of the time games live up to the hype I feel for them but then again I don't get hyped often. Lately I've been more ~pleasantly surprised~ by some games surpassing my expectations like Pillars of Eternity.

Well, I might have got hyped about The Witcher 3, but since it was fairly obvious that my hardware would not be enough I tried to mostly ignore. I fear I might be in a similar position with Fallout 4.

But I'm very hyped for "Pillars of Eternity" (waiting for price drop, have a huge backlog anyway), "SOMA" (release date 22nd Sept. was just announced), "Tides of Numenera" and the "Pathologic Remake".

Same, my gaming laptop sadly will struggle with Arkham Knight, though it runs Ground Zeroes fantastically so am looking forward to Phantom Pain.

OT: Very rarely, it's clear hype will almost always lead to a sense of disappointment, even if the game is great. The industry's 'vertical slices' and 'in-engine footage' trailers are misleading to the extreme. Not to mention the downscaling of previously shown graphics, though that doesn't normally bother me that much.

Overexposure of a game also makes me incredibly wary. Games like Destiny which were marketed out the ass (IGN still post 3-5 articles about it a DAY) will also lead to over-hype and disappointed. Like Destiny again.

If it's a developer/franchise I have some faith in and/or a playable demo I will start to get excited but even that has failed me in the past *cough*Gearbox**Cough*DukeNukem&Aliens*Cough*.

After The Last of Us wasn't exactly the game I wanted and Watch_Dogs bored the arse off of me, I vowed not to get that hyped up by a game ever again.

Then they had to go and announce Fallout 4 and I'm like "Oh My God!!!!!! Fallout 4!!!!!!!!! If that's out this year I will buy a PS4 to play it".

What I'm trying to say is, I will never learn.

Maybe twice a year, roughly.

Currently making slightly creepy fleeting eye contact with XCOM2.

Also some others, but I'm not sure when they're coming out.

Not very often. I've been playing them for too long to let hype effect me. Though I did enjoy the new Deus Ex trailer a LOT, and felt gleefully happy about it. Mostly because it's more Michael McCann music, and I love his shit. So seeing a new badass cinematic with his score as the music was a joy for me.

The game itself, I'm patiently waiting for it, without any hype.

Pretty rarely. The most recent examples, Bloodborne and The Witcher 3, were mostly hype worthy because the former wasn't really built up to be anything but a Souls game distilled into a fine snortable powder (which I am completely okay with) and the latter because I was pretty confident in CDPR to actually put care and effort in while still being fairly sensible (which is pretty evident in the final product). Other than that, I don't really git hyped. Games will pique my interest and I'll keep an eye on them, but I won't generally go out of my way to get excited. I've been burned before with shit like Spore, and most companies making blatant over-exaggerations and over-ambitious claims hasn't helped. I tend to get more hyped for updates to games I already own and play since it's new content for games I already know I enjoy.

So rarely, if it hadn't been for devil may cry 4 special edition and XCOM 2 just recently I would've dared declare myself effectively immune. System requirements too high, no pc version, questionable DLC practices, having too much work myself, endless waiting through kickstarter campaigns/early access/beta/"Soon?" ... All on top of me of course having to like the idea of the game to begin with. Is it really any surprise very few wicks ever make it through that gauntlet of sand buckets? All in all I'd say two is actually a surprisingly high number.

Not really. I have too many games to play to worry about games that aren't available yet. That and marketing ploys usually don't work on me. The more you scream " look at me" the less i actually want to look.

I don't get hyped anymore. And frankly it baffles me how anyone still can. After fiascos like Aliens: Colonial Marines how can people still get hyped for things and do the pre-order thing?

The only one I can remember at this point was Witcher 3. I really had trouble de-hypifying myself there, but I ended up accidentally getting it as a freebie when I bought some new parts for my PC, so after that I just let the hype flow freely while I waited to upgrade my computer.

I've felt the same way about preorders, but I did run into one case. On youtube, I had the preorder debate with someone who still buys physical copies of games, or maybe it was Amiibos, I didn't get the details. It sounds likely since he said that it sold out quickly and wasn't available for weeks. Anyway, getting something before it sells out was pretty much the reason preordering existed in the first place before companies started abusing the practice. I couldn't tell him to just stop getting physical copies, since there are benefits and downsides to both digital and physical so in the end, I conceded defeat.

Hyped is kind of a funny word. To be honest, my backlog is such that I'm never really waiting for anything to play, there's always something interesting to be doing. Also I tend not to buy games at release so there is always a long wait between knowing a game is good and being able to play it. For me I'd divide the forthcoming games into the following catagories.

1) Games I assume are going to be good to great: Fallout 4 is such a game. Its probably going to be around the same quality as FO3 - if its not that's a shame, but the assumption is that its going to be fine. Other games like this include Arkham Knight and the Witcher 3.

2) Games which I think are interesting because it's not possible or at least not clear how they are going to turn out, especially new IPs. There's always the possibility that they might be great or they might fail spectacularly. These games include the Mad Max game from the Just Cause studio, and maybe something like No Mans Sky. The uncertainty around them is much more exciting than games which are just going to fall into the slightly better or slightly worse than their predecessor.

Like a lot of other people I think I'm getting turned off by excessive hype for certain games - last year between WatchDogs, Titanfall and Destiny there seemed to be more than ever of these games which seemed to need some unnecessary news story reported about them every week for months before their release, and it kind of got to the point where I was fed up with them before they were even released (Not that I've actually played any of them yet).

Only really if it is a sequel to a game that I like, or by a developer that I like.

I honestly haven't felt hyped about a single game this gen. Still don't get why we have a Xbox One or PS4; none of the games released thus-far needed an entire new console release.
Except for maybe the graphics on The Order, but the game was crap. And if you get a new gen simply for that game, then you're paying what, $460 to play The Order?
Yeah, no thanks.

I'll get hyped when a game comes out that couldn't have just been on my ol' 360.

Rarely. I'm pretty laid back about my gaming. Not much excites me anymore. Looking forward to Zelda U and Fire Emblem If, and that's about it.

Don't get me started on pre-orders. In the age of digital distribution there is literally no reason to pre-order unless you want the bullshit bonuses which will probably be included with the Game of the Year/Collector's Edition anyway.
