Never - I just have to refresh it a few times sometimes to get one that's actually legible.

If the alternative is lots of spambots (and I've been a member of forums where that was / is a problem) then I don't mind them, they're not that big a deal.
Forums with loads of spambots are forums where the moderators aren't doing their job. On this site, it's over-moderated and CAPTCHA is overkill.

One of the huge advantages of the Pub Club.

I got a captcha that was half-chinese once. That confused me.
Took long enough for Pub Club to come up.

Anyway, same answer. Minus the Chinese CAPTCHA thing.

So if you pay, you can get rid of the CAPTCHA? Oh wow, that makes things worse.

It's essentially the only advantage that you actually notice or use. Just fyi.

I was on another forum where you couldn't edit your posts (the edit button just disappeared one day) unless you were a paying member. In that case it was "take away a feature to get people to pay". This is the same idea, except opposite "add an annoyance to get people to pay to get rid of it".

Like those anti-virus programs that say you are infected (or infect you) just so you'll pay to have them remove the virus.

Well, no, on a majority of websites, full members are also expected to CAPTCHA sometimes. I'm really not sure how you seem to take personal offence to the procedure. Comparing it to being infected with a trojan is just plain ridiculous. It's an added feature to the pubclub. It's not the only benefit you get, it's just one.

I didn't compare CAPTCHA to a virus, I compared using CAPTCHA as a way to get people to pay to those bogus anti-virus programs.

Read it again.

I've bolded the part you may want to revisit. "AV programs" that say you're infected then charge you money, are in fact, malware.

And again, you've still not explained why you seem to view it as a personal slight that you're expected to record a CAPTCHA when you post. It keeps bots off the forums, I'm happy.

I have told you what I meant and I see no reason to argue with you about it. If you wish to misrepresent what I said, it's on you.

Your second paragraph says that I haven't explained why I take it as a personal slight. If you think I take it as a personal slight, then you also know why but to help your poor mouse wheel I will quote myself here.

Do you ever wonder why legitimate posters have to prove over and over again that they aren't bots? Is there no way they can program a flag in to only throw captchas at new posters until they prove they aren't bots? It's ridiculous and I guess I am curious how many posts were skipped because people didn't want to deal with CAPTCHAS.
Now I know you will try to misrepresent that too, that appears to be your purpose in this thread, so I will clarify for you.

I take it personally that I have to prove over and over again that I am not a bot or a spammer. What purpose does it serve to prove myself if they don't believe me anyway and will test me again in X number of posts.

I don't mind CAPTCHA, but sometimes I stop writing in mid-sentence because I don't find a way to put what's on my mind in clear english.

I do that too. Sometimes I decide not to post because my opinion is the same as several other posters and I am not offering anything to the thread. Of course, sometimes I see the CAPTCHA and decide to go to another forum where posting isn't such a pain in the ass, like Gaf.

Often. On this site any anyway.

I don't normally have a problem with Captchas but the captcha generator on this site gives me something borderline illegible half the time. Not to mention the symbols or whatever that I don't even have on my keyboard in the first place.

Never it really doesn't take much time or effort to fill it out and it may stop spam bots and the like from popping up as much as they would if it wasn't there.

Never. The only reasons I don't post things are because either I don't want to get involved in the topic (often happens with political debates or, oddly specifically, ones about alleged police brutality) or when I spend way too long typing and re-typing my post and then decide "no, I have better things to do". Or when posting something would get me quoted and yelled at a lot for having an unpopular opinion because, let's face it, even here on the Escapist people get berated for having an unpopular opinion even if it's totally reasonable/justifiable for them to have it. Namely, almost anything conservative get yelled down.

I know, try saying you liked Oblivion better than Skyrim and watch the shit fly. Just earlier tonight I refused to list my favorite games this gen because I wasn't up for a fight.
