How often do you get quoted here?

I don't post that often, but when I do, I almost always get one or more quotes per thread I post in. Probably helps that I generally take the time to actually form a coherent post, and flesh it out pretty well. Couple that with that I only post on topics I have an intimate knowledge of (Which also seem to always be controversial threads on sexuality, gender, or equality, which probably helps with quotes)

On top off all of that, I get a metric butt-load of PMs from people asking questions about my post, the topic, or myself, it had gotten to the point where I was forgoing sleep to answer everything... Narf

Y'know what bugs me? How being quoted's become a bit of a semi-regular ego boost. "No quotes today? Aww."
It's always been like that, really. It's the same reason people near-obsessively check their comments on Youtube to see if they've been thumbed up. It's confirmation that they've said something that their peers agree with and naturally it provides a nice ego boost. I think it's perfectly normal, personally; we all want recognition for the things we do and say, even if it's not always entirely positive. It's no different to say a game recognising you beat a level on hard difficulty and giving you an 'achievement unlocked!' message. It's a silly ego boost, but it still makes us feel good because something has recognised our effort.

Myeah, that's the kind of stuff you tell a mod about. No-one is allowed to be a dick, even in PM's. I'm not usually the type to cry 'report, report!' but personal harassment is a pretty shitty thing to do.

OT: I tend to get quoted often if i decide to make a stand in a controversial topic rather than be on the fence like most people seem to do or say something irrelevant. I also find i get quoted often if i write a WALL O' TEXT although that's to be expected really, people can't help picking apart a carefully constructed argument. Though i must say i infinitely prefer that to the childish "tl;dr" response. I don't think i get quoted because i'm recognisable, but rather the fact that i'm willing to wade into tough topics and have a firm stance on something and that naturally stirs up debate.

I have 1887 (now 1888) posts. Checking my profile, I have been quoted 238 times since the 7th August 2011 (all older quotations have been deleted).

That's almost exactly three months ago. Assuming my post rate has been steady since joining, and assuming that my quotation rate has also been steady since joining, and considering the fact I joined on the 4th April 2010 (which leaves 15 months of my time here unaccounted for by my quotation inbox)...

15 months, divided by 3 equals 5, 5 times 238 is 1190. I have been quoted approximately 1190 times during the first 15 months of my account duration. Add to that the 238 quotes I've received in the last 3 months, and I have been quoted 1428 times, out of a total of 1888 posts, leaving me with... roughly three quoted posts for every four posts made.

My rate's better than yours, is what I'm saying.

It's almost like everyone isn't extremely interested in what i say...
I know, what madness is this?

Ditto.

Feel better?

But yah it doesn't bother me, I generally just barely avoid getting in trouble for low content posts as is.

I can't really say that I keep track of how many times I get quoted but I think its quite often. When I actually can be bothered to post on the forums that is.

If I'm replying to someone, (I quote them first), then the frequency is quite high, considering I rarely reply in agreement or without trying to further the discussion. (Unless you just choose to ignore me, which [certain individuals] have begun to do.

If I just post, I get quoted about 1/10 of the time, although that 1 post might get 4 or 5 quotes because that's just how awesome I am I only make decent posts about 1/10 of the time.

I saw the title and wanted to post "not often enough T_T" in a joking manner. Thinking about it, though, I dread getting quoted. I'm not sure why, but most quotes seem to be from people who are severely pissed off by something I said that wasn't intended to offend anybody. It's gotten to the point that my first reaction to seeing there's a mail in my Quoted Inbox has become:"Oh, God. What did I do this time?" So, if anything, I guess I get quoted too often. Let the trolling ensue...

I'm a controversy magnet. Not every post I make is quoted, but a lot of them are getting quoted several times. Current record's like, a dozen, but I'm sure if I keep pushing contrvoersial thoughts like "consumers are people, too," I'll get up to 100 for one post.

Welcome to my world.

Well, most of the time.

I don't post that much, so I rarely get quoted. Also when I post it tends to be word heavy, and I think the wall of text scares people off. I have found that if I quote a person, I almost always get quoted back; so I have been trying to do that more often, however I still only quote people when I find a really interesting thread, and a person who I feel would benefit from my opinion, or when I find a question I can answer or a topic feel strongly about.

Looks like roughly...hmmm...17.93% of the time. (Yes, I did the math. Leave me alone.)

Usually when I don't proofread what I've written, so I end up saying something about a Scottish accent vs a British one and some smartass has to come along and say "When did Scotland leave Britain!?"

As often as I like.
That's right, I may shape each of my posts in order to receive quotes or not.

I get quoted in almost every thread if the topic involves used games. One of my posts got quoted more than 10 times in less than an hour last week.

For the most part I don't get quoted all hat much.

Consider yourself randomly quoted for no good reason.
