How often do you pre-order games?

I've never actually pre-ordered a game before, though the thought had crossed my mind many times with other games, but until i got into mass effect I'd never given it much thought.

So my question is: What makes you WANT to pre-order games? (My reason being i'm a die hard Mass Effect fan)

Is it the extra content that is included with it? or is there some other reason you do it? like you want to show it off to your friends or something like that?

Usually for the extra stuff (like collectors editions) and to make sure that I'll be able to get it as soon as it comes out... Only on games that I have a lot of faith it (so far ME2, Reach and DEHR)

All the time

I preorder becuase I get extra loyalty points at GAME and also I like to be able to pre-load on Steam so I can play it right away. I get a bit overexcited when games I like come out.I don't think I have preordered anything recently that I have hated tbh. DA2 was a bit of a let down but it wasn't totally horrible or anything.

At the moment I have Batman Arkham City, Sims 3 Pets and Skyrim preordered. I'm saving up for them.

The extra content is a nice bonus too :)

I have pre ordered one game in my lifetime, and that is Skyrim.

The amount of times I buy a game on Day 1 is pretty small.

The only game I've pre-ordered was Fallout New Vegas from Steam for the caravaners pack (extra starting items) and the 10% off. Otherwise outside of a few Madden games and Portal 2 (because a friend wanted to co-op with me) I tend to avoid buying games early because I've got a little backload of games I still need to get too. Personally, I would only pre-order if it came with extra items or bonus content, otherwise I'm normally content to sit back and wait a couple months.

Only Portal 2, I personally got Portal 1 from the Mac launch on steam. I'm probably going to get Saints Row 3 if I can run it, but I have to wait for specs.

A couple of times per year, only when I really want the game. This year I did it for DA 2 (mistake), LA Noire (worth it) and Skyrim (must be worth it, or else I'll give up on life)

Not very often. I usually do it for at least one game a year. One that I absolutely must have the first day. Last year it was Mass Effect 2. This year, Skyrim. Aside from that though, there are so many places you can find video games in my area that I'm sure to find a copy in the days following release.

I never pre-order. Seems odd to me to buy a game that no one knows anything about, there is no review, no opinion...no nothing. The only game I've ever wanted to pre-order was Portal 2 because even if it sucked, it still would have been better than most games due to new puzzle maps.

Steam usually offers a 10% discount of the release price, that is what got me over the line on Portal 2, Deus Ex: Human Resources and Frozen Synapse. These were all games that I trusted to be better than average and I feel I was correct in that assessment. When I ordered Deus Ex: Human Resources it was $99 for a pre-order in retail shops and $49.99 -%10 on Steam, that was a no-brainer. I don't pre-order for goodies, in fact i don't think I have ever got any.

I can't remember what possessed me to pre-order From Dust, I must have been ill that day.

I have only pre-ordered one game, and that is Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. I've never played an Elder Scrolls game before, but the trailers, gameplay videos, news related to the game, and all that just make it sound like EXACTLY the game I've been waiting for.

Plus, the map you get for pre-ordering is pretty sweet. It's supposed to be like burlap, and I'm a sucker for authenticity. :3

Very rarely, the only (full) game I ever pre-ordered was Dragon Age: Origins, and I still haven't finished that...
Besides that I pre-downloaded WoW:Cataclysm, and got Empire: Total War and DCUO as pre-ordered birthday gifts.

On average day-1 or even month-1 sales are rare for me.

most of the time
1: for pre order goodies
2: for collectors editions
3: so it's delivered to me and I don't have to leave my seat!

I never pre-order. Simply because I want to see how the game plays and looks before buying. And I don't trust demo like at E3 and such.

About half of my games I pre-order. There are usually a number of games each year (usually about 10) that I really want to have. Those I pre-order for bonuses and to be sure I have them on release. And then there are some other games that I like the look of when they eventually get released.

The only games I pre-order are Bioware's (I might be a fangirl...) and because I want Collector's edition.

Other then that, I never pre-order, and rarely get games when they come out. I don't know about you, but where I live they usually are between 60-70euros on Launch day and I CANNOT afford that. Since I don't download, and I don't buy second-handed, I usually wait a couple of months until the price goes down. It's a bit annoying to wait, but worth it in the end.
