I tend to just leave on-access scanning set to scan files on write then run a single weekly scan to be sure nothing got through. Served me fine so far.

I run a full scans weekly of Avast!(tho that's technically always scanning...), Ad-Aware & Spybot, I also monthly CCleaner run.

In 15 years, only had 2 issues, one was completely Norton's fault for sucking and the other was due to me not having Avast! on for some reason--and it was WoW-related, but both problems were easily dealt with. :)

I'm Curious, How often do you Escapist people run a Virus scan on your Computer / Mac?

Given im on Windows 7 x64 im less open to attack from a lot of the older viruses that affect the x86 systems but not meaning my PC cant be a carrier of sorts, I Tend to run a Full Deep Virus Scan with Avast! once a month and Every time I come up clean.

I've also met PC Hypochondriacs who scan almost Daily!

So Ya How often do you scan if you have Anti-Virus at all! also what Anti Virus do you use?

(Please no Flames about which AV is better xD )
Daily. I have a quick scan scheduled whenever I turn on my PC, and I do a long scan whenever I take a nap. :)
I'm starting to feel like the weird one now since so many scan so often, I Scan monthly and never find anything xD

Well I watch porn and do a few other malicious activities on the internets so I'm trying to be as safe as can be while having the most fun I can. Otherwise, (like my older computers) I will have to say goodbye as it's destroyed by spam/viruses and other nasty bugs.
I know your problem ;) some years ago i at least saved the virus on a floppy disk for my collection, but my last 2 pc's didn't had those ;)

I use AVG, it works well enough. I scan like once a week but it is only once in a blue moon that anything turns up. I don't really go to any dangerous sites.

I honestly don't know. My AV just does its thing in the backround so id say it scans every two days. If i feel the need ill run a manual scan though maybe once a month

Used to do it once a week maybe.

But now I have a Mac so haven't found it necessary.

Virus scan? Never, best protection against virus is common sense and normal knowledge about how a computer works.
Malwere scan is different though, probubly once a year.

I do a weekly scan, but I usually end up cancelling it. I've yet to get a virus, and I don't like my computer being slowed down while it is scanning.

Usually when I shower or are otherwise AWOL, I leave my PC to run AVG and Avast!, and usually defrag while I'm at it. So about every two days. Also after, say, downloading music I'll scan the file, or if I have a possible infection.
I've had no detections in about two years outside of a false one and a few cookies, so I assume it's worth the effort.

I never scan unless I think i've got a virus and I want to go looking for it.

real time scanning should remove the necessity to manually scan all the time, it scans all files when they are transfered to or from your computer, when they are changed and even when they are read if your real paranoid. so the only way something could get through is if you turn it off, or if a new virus that the scanner doesn't yet know about comes through. but even then the scanner scans everything on execution, regardless on whether it has been scanned before, so when you finally do update, it will catch it.

I suppose I might do a full scan once or twice a year. but in the last 3 years I haven't got a single virus.

as for Mac users.. can you even get virus scanners for Macs? I thought they were on a "Don't ask, Don't tell" policy?

I usually only do it when I feel like it, but I indefinitely scan after a "very pleasurable" visit to certain sites I find on google.
Yeah, porn.

You can't be too certain. Even if they're on the other side of the screen, doesn't mean they can't still infect you with virus. ^.^
I see what you did there.

Personally I never scan my computer. I'm probably a hive of viruses and other such malware.

sometimes when I get the random emails sent from an email contact I have lost touch with, the ones written in engrish pointing you to some random "bargain" shopping site, I wonder if its just the old friend trying to get back in touch with me and doesn't know how to break the ice...

I find I don't need to, since a combination of Avast! and Spybot Search & Destroy (it also does other viruses) pretty much gaurentees that if if a virus goes undetected by Avast! (unlikely) it will get terminated by Spybot Search & Destroy as soon as it tries to run.
