To be honest, it began as a desire to understand and share something that was very important to my boyfriend. I didn't want him to have to chooose between his favourite pastime and spending time with me, so I asked him to show me some games we could play together.tredecim said:That's actually quite interesting in itself.RaphaelsRedemption said:I'm 23, and I started playong computer games a year ago.
I'm a late bloomer, ok?
In that time, I've gone from a casual gamer to a hooked games enthusiast who has even studied games design at TAFE. I love games. I need to make up for all those missed years...
Why did you suddenly, at the age of 22, decide you wanted to play games? Was it because you had a go on someone else's and realised it was great? Was it just that you got a notion one day and it stuck?
I've never come across a 'new' gamer like you before - all the gamers I know have been, like myself, gaming mentalists for almost their entire lives.
It didn't start well. He tried to get me to play Battlefield 2. In my honest opinion, 1st person shooters aren't that great to start with, because the viewpoint is hard to get used to and the controls aren't really very intuitive. However, things took a turn for the better when I told him my half memories of watching my brothers play Age of Empires. We got the game installed on our computers, and I was hooked.
From there grew my enjoyment of games. Since then, I've explored almost every genre of games, and can say I can see the entertainment in most of them. I also have a great appreciation of multiplayer as well as singleplayer - because I started playing with my boyfriend, I know just how much fun a supportive co-player can be.
So yeah. It started so I wasn't in direct competition for my boyfriend's attention, and just became so much more...
