Well for all claims of realism aside, Modern Warfare 2 involves a bunch of science fiction elements when you get down to it. Truthfully I'm wondering when it will get so over the top it will finally give up the pretensions of realism. Granted though it is more along the lines of the Tom Clancy version of sci-fi than the James Bond or Super Hero school which is how they get away with it.

At any rate given the existance of characters like "Nick Fury" who were around since World War II and continue to fight/command given the intervention of super science (in this case a certain famous serum) I suppose it's not difficult to justify, but if they were to actually state something like that it would give the game too much of a "high camp" spin.

But then again as some people (on Something Awful) have put it, the plot of MW2 is kind of going the way of Season 6 of the "24" series. :)

Its about using the same names to create a sense of familarity, I assume this Price could/would be the son or grandson of that Price. Theres a captain foley in the latest game whose black, and there was a white captain foley in the first COD.

Saying that they're simply related, or share the same name and facial hair tastes are the second and third best theory. The number one theory, however, is that it is a game where having memorable, consistent characters is a nice nod to fans of the franchise, and that is the absolute extent of the justification they need. This is kind of like Simpsons of Family Guy fans who freak out when 2 gags contradict each other. Come up with wild theories all you want, but just remember that the real reason is that fans look for it.

Maybe in the next installment it will turn out he is some sort of evil demon and take over the world. Cause now that they have run out of history they are gonna need to go somewhere. Maybe outer space...

More OT: To restate what has been said it is most likely because that badass that killed the nazi that was just about to stab you is the same guy that shot the russian terrorist that was just about to stab you. The moustache just makes you look twice. Plus if he ever gets captured he can say he is a time traveling cowboy.

Prehaps it was his father? I highly doubt that they would be silly enough to make them the same guy.

He was alive during the sixteenth century. He was on a ship headed for the New World, but there was a hurricane, and he was shipwrecked on Florida. There, he found the Fountain of Youth, which he drank from and became immortal.

What? You got a better theory?
G-Man keeps him frozen in the same extra-diegetic lab where he stores Gordan Freeman.

Same name, different Characters, probably related.
It's like that Gnome in all of Valve's games: same name, different gnome.
What gnome?
Gnome Chompski, the Garden Gnome: he's in Half-life, Left4Dead and Portal, and others.

Cpt. Price is a name given to great soldiers, like The Arbiter. It comes with bitching facial hair and enough bad ass-ery to rival 3 of the 4 Die Hard films (you know which 3, the other one wasn't a Die Hard film)
