How old is the oldest person you know?

A friend of my mother's is 113.

The funny thing is, that friend runs a home for the elderly. Note that she runs it, not stays in it.

Oldest person I actually know would be my grandmother at.. 60-something.
My family doesn't live very long.

98 years old. My "nan". fantastic woman. she still acts like a child, it's fantastic to see a little old lady giggling her little arse off when the Tomato Sauce bottle makes fart noises.

My great grandmother is in her mid 90s and going great actually. Physically she's still about 80 though she is slowly starting to lose her mind but I have no doubt that she will reach 100. It's even more amazing considering that she lost her husband and son within 6 months of each other a few years ago.

Maternal grandmother (German) is 86. Paternal grandfather (American) is 89. Both are reasonably healthy old-people. (Living on their own. My grandfather still drives himself, and my grandmother still walks the 3-4 blocks to grocery store every other day or so AND take the 5 flights of stairs to her apartment.)

I have high hopes that my grandfather will reach the big one-oh-oh and have reasonable hopes that my grandmother will at least come close. Gives me hope that I myself may live a long time.

My Great Grandmother is 93, she's the oldest person I know. She's pretty frail, but her mind is still sharp.

My grandma is 94. She isn't the most active person, but she still manages to survive.

Although I can't remember her exact age (terrible, I know) my grandmother on my mum's side (only living grandparent left) is in her late 80s, getting close to 90. However, I'm not sure how much longer she'll last.

I've got to tell you, a 100th birthday party isn't something you get to go to more that once or twice in a lifetime, if ever, and I love the fact that I can say I went to one.

Two great-grandmothers on my father's side made it to 100. It was quite cool getting to go to 2 centennial parties in just over 2 years.

Incidentally, neither made it to 101, but they were still the oldest people I knew. Now...I don't know who it would be. Maybe an uncle who's about 92.

My paternal-paternal great-grandmother lived to be 101 years old. She was born in 1890. So if she was alive she would be 120 (121 on jan 11.)
Also, of note she did not have dentures having nearly all her original teeth. She claims the secret to that was lots of lemons and herring.

Currently... my maternal-grandfather is 92. He still plants things in his garden and can drive. HE jokes that no-one would take his license away even if they needed to... See he's still 6'4" (he claims to have shrunk) and in 1962 was one of the first members of something we in the USA call Navy Seals.

I'm a bit of a skeptic when it comes to that whole 'knowing one's self' idea. The Person we all know least about is the person closest to ourselves. That is to say that to know someone you cannot BE them, you have to be an observer to their existence to know them.

A valid point indeed. "knowing one's self" seems almost synonymous with "self love", in my mind at least.

In that case, yes: if i had no parents, was able to sneak in and out of a sperm bank with the appropriate content (that's after a lengthy screening for someone I like, managed to not see a single human being for, lets say, all my life and 6 moths 4 days of theirs, AND had a viable uterus in which to give birth, then they would be the oldest individual i had ever met.

Simples.
