How open are you about your geeky-ness? (If you'd call yourself a geek that is)

Title says it all. For anyone who considers themselves "geeky", are you open about it? I am, though not on purpose or anything, it's just who I am. I'm open about playing videogames, spending my share of time on the internet, referencing childhood cartoons and anime, and I can't help but discuss Film and my love for it (in particular Surrealist Film)

If that qualifies me as geeky, then so be it. I used to keep this stuff completely to myself (along with really giving a shit what everyone thought of me) but then I realized that I shouldn't keep myself from being me.

Also feel free to pour about any geeky things you do.

I don't care what people think of my interests or personality, so I'm as open as I can be. If someone asks me a question, I answer it honestly. I don't go parading who I am though, as I'm not one to do that. It just isn't my personality to tell everyone about myself for no reason.

Same; it makes it easier to find like-minded friends, and a person should always be happy to show off what makes them special (albeit not in an arrogant way).

.. Was that at Anime North? You look.. Familiar to me...

OT: I don't go blathering on about how I got my Kingslayer title or whatever, but I don't have any real problem sharing what I've done if asked.

I act like me, and the fact I am geeky means I act geeky. My prom dress was a cosplay dress from chobits, and it looked awesome. I always keep a few common cables in my purse along with a few assorted screwdrivers. I strut along with my pokewalker (I'm like lvl 70 and it's a lot easier/lazier than grinding to lvl100) and I have companion cube in the window of my back car. I am me.

People who I work with in the music scene tend to find me very geeky because I know about computers, gaming culture and so forth, also I don't drink or do drugs and am very articulate, so to those people I'm very uncool and basically a complete nerd. However people who describe themselves as geeks don't find me geeky at all and in fact those people tend to perceive me as "cool" because of my music involvement, tendency to get laid on a regular basis and general ineptitude at gaming, which I actually find quite weird. So I guess I don't fit in anywhere. I don't really care though. I'm quite open about geekiness or whatever but I don't tend to talk to many people about it - not out of any kind of embarrassment (after many years of making a fool of myself in the public arena I barely even know what that emotion is anymore) but because I figure that most just don't give a shit, or wouldn't understand what I was talking about anyway. I also very rarely reference anything cultural at all when I talk to people - I'd rather use my own words and poersonality to express something than some statement I cribbed from a TV show or game or whatever.

Pretty much this. My interests and activities go a long way to defining who I am, so I shouldn't be ashamed of that.

Im a Geek. Plain and simple.
I wear it on my sleeve like a priest would wear his vestments or a soldier his dog tags.
Its what I am and what I'll always be.

I'm not open at all... in fact my girlfriend walked in on me when I was singing and playing Kiri by Monorol and we just stopped and stared at each other for a while... She knows I watch anime and she has watched a few too but it was still embarrassing... especially since I'm a terrible singer...<.<

Dude, I like so much different shit that people can't define me with that word. I build computers, play any system you can name, draw, watch endless anime, study japanese, do bodybuilding, mma, play guitar, snowboard like a crazy man, photography, im half mexican but i look white, im a nameless concoction.

But should people really give a sh*t what I like? I just like to make people laugh, and to enjoy life. If they aren't like that too then I just don't bother wasting my time on them :)

Also mtg, warhammer 40k, dnd, larp, and to be honest you would never guess it by looking at me. People stereotype wayyyy to much from appearance.

Black dahlia murder is also pretty amazing.

I'm pretty damn open about it, there isn't much point in hiding it since geekdom is practically my life. Now I don't bother discussing these things with people who don't care, but I'm still willing answer any geeky questions if asked.

I'm a total geek, I guess, and I don't try to hide it. That doesn't mean I go around telling everybody, but if somebody asks if I am I won't say no.

Everyone knows I'm a somewhat antisocial, awkward, metal-loving, video game playing nerd. It's just who I am. Sure, it attracts the less popular gamers, but I can have a good conversation with them any time, no problem.

I don't want to say "What BonsaiK said", but pretty much my accounting classmates tend to regard me as a complete geek because I like Star Trek and video games, while geeks and nerds look at my litany of crazy adventures and the fact that I have Kramer-like levels of "kavorka" in order to get me laid like a cheap carpet and think "that dude's a badass."

I don't think of myself as a geek or a nerd. I think of myself as a jock-gone-bad thanks to developing arthritis from too many sports injuries. I took up gaming as a real major hardcore hobby because I couldn't play sports anymore.
