How open are you about your geeky-ness? (If you'd call yourself a geek that is)

I won't deny it or anything, but I'm not particularly outspoken about it either. If I find that someone else shares my interests, I'll let them know that, or if I'm talking about what I did on the weekend, and it just so happened to be sitting at home playing L4D, then I won't hide it.

While I have some undoubtedly geeky qualities and interests, I refuse to let these aspects of my personality overshadow the others and thus singularly define me.

If the discussion is geeky, I will not shy away from it. Do I scream it from the rooftops, out of the depths of my longues? Surely not. There's no point in doing so.

If this is being open or not is, I suppose, up for discussion.

I consciously hide it as much as possible. Prehaps the ultimate sign of trust I can have someone is talking aopenly about say watching anime.

I'm open as a geek. Although I'm not that bad as a geek I really only play video games which by many people's standards makes me a geek. When people find out they normally go cool whatever and we both coutinue doing whatever.

This is me, without the music industry.
I don't hide it, I just don't show it very well. People tend to be completely thrown-back when they come over and see my collection of games. It's sort of a "Holy shit, I can't believe you waisted all this money on these" and i'm like "Hey, how much money have you waisted on stupid shit like make-up?" it's significantly more by the way.

In fact, when i went to school nobody but my two best friends really had a clue about how into games i was because i've always been balanced and it didn't hurt that i was friendly and popular. I've never been embarrassed about it though, i love meeting people like myself who have that side to them that nobody would ever guess.

So i guess I am open without being seen.

I know I'm not as geekiest person in the world, but would define myself as a geek, for I am a programmer and a gamer, and spend far too much time in front of monitors :p

I tend to be open about who I am, unless it's going to harm what I set out to achieve. Fortunately it's rare that saying I'm geeky is detrimental to the situation, and usually they know because I'm there fixing their computer. Or something. The whole "what's your job?" question usually sets their expectations anyway :p.

Well if it's appropriate I'll bring it up in conversation (something I found amusing on the internet etc), though it's hardly as if being a geek is all I am. I also loathe leet speak.

I don't wear those stupid horn-rimmed glasses or whatever teens wear to try to look geeky. But I'm usually playing PSP on the bus. I don't hide who I am, but I don't flaunt it to draw attention.
If people actually talked to me, I'd be talking about videogames or D&D or whathaveyou. But. No one at my university likes me haha.

Personally I take the word geek to mean 'those whom our eventual robot overlords will let live in exchange for routine maintenance'.
Frankly I'm glad that my intelligence and knowledge mean that I won't be the first against the wall when the revolution comes.

I'm in a large LARP group in my area that tends to have sessions in public spaces (by necessity), flagrantly play my video games of all kinds and read my manga and watch my anime in public (laptops and portable consoles GO), and am totally okay singing geeky songs on the subway or sidewalk. I don't care if people know I'm a nerd/geek/whatever; if they have a problem, clearly we're not each other's type, anyway.

Whoo!

I once said to my freind in a very sincere and serious tone

me: I've got somthing to tell you..
her: what?
me: this isn't easy to say but I have to be true to myself
her: what is it?
me: I'm coming out...
her: you mean...
me: Yes I'm...a GAMER hahahaha

I call myself all kinds of things. Geek, dork, nerd, dweeb, etc. I let people know that I play video games, have played D&D, play trombone, don't drink, don't do drugs, don't pirate, and enjoy being your everyday grammar Nazi.

Also, the way I talk is very unique, say some people.

Hhhmm... I'm pretty open about playing video games and, to a lesser extent, anime. I do, however, generally try to cover up the fact that I play D&D.
