Unfortunately the under educated and poor just dont hold up the stereotype. Mostly because they are angry and want to blame everyone for their issues.

I lived in a town called Marlow, 30 mins from London and Reading (in between so to speak)and I found most there to be very polite. Probably all changed now with the number of Albanians that has been sent there.

oh well.

I'd class myself as being polite, perhaps even too polite. I know this puts me into the minority (at least around my area, as Rotherham is full of utter twats Chavs). Strangely enough though, I use sarcasm a lot as well, just subtly so I don't draw attention to it.
But I think this is the same anywhere you go; you'll get polite people, you'll get those that aren't. You've just gotta go to the right places to find them...

A hell of a lot more polite than you.

Way to try to generalize a group of people based on race (maybe nationality in this case)

Hmm, that doesn't really roll of the tongue, whats a shorter way of saying that?

oh yeah, I remember

It's racism

Most English are fairly polite most of the time.

Excluding BNP supporters that is, who are just a bunch of un-evolved monkeys.

First of all I'm English, and think of myself as quite polite. My understanding is that the English are seen (stereotyped?) as a quite posh and polite people.

So my question is: If you're not from the UK do you think of the English as polite? Have you visited England, and what impression did you get of the English people?

If you live in England do you think of yourself as polite, and how polite do you think England is?

This question was brought about as I was hit by a car yesterday, and the first thing I did, after flying 10 feet through the air, was to apologise to the guy driving the car.
After getting hit by a car and flying ten feet, if the very first thing you do is apologize (obviously a ridiculous lie/exaggeration on your part) You're not polite, you are severely brain damaged.

SEVERELY

I have heard that the English are rigidly polite, like they are afraid you might want to be friends with them or something.

But my English friends--while, at times, repressed, are generally polite, awesome people.

Every British person I've ever met (12, by the way) was very polite. So, I think the U.K. is a polite nation.

I'm 16, from England, and have never met a posh person in my area. I live in Reading, so that's not saying much, but still. The only posh people are over 60.
Woo, I'm from reading too, HIGH FIVES.
OT: I find that english people are usually polite but it's hard to find underneath all the chavs and teanagers.

I think of myself as polite, saying please and thank you and all that. But then again the city i live in isn't exactly renowned for being posh.

I'm not rude unless someone pisses me off. Everyone says my accent is very posh (Nottingham).

The English are very polite. At least when compared to Finns. Words like "thank you" "excuse me" "pardon" and the likes are nonexistant in Finland, while in Britain I heard them often. The closest thing to a "thank you" is a grunt.

However:

we americans may not the most polite nationality on the planet (seeing as how we think that screaming something to someone who doesn't speak english will get them to understand exactly what we're saying) but I'm pretty certain that the place where punk rock was invented can't be all tea and crumpits.

I'm Irish so no, we don't generally see the English as the most polite nation in the world...

Depends on where you go and what company you keep. But compared to my fellow Welsh folk around here - they're really very nice.

i think only the people who can afford to spread the stereotype that brits are polite actually are. But thinking of all the chavs in england, i doubt that you could call the general public polite. Also it depends from what part of england you are
