To clarify the OP: The canadian steroetype I referred to is their alleged friendliness and trust in strangers, and commenting that Virginia took this all the way to politics. Far-eastern state was the only witty alias I could come up with, which on reflectioj sounds very odd. I'm not much of a talker, and really just wanted to see a Viginian's opinion on all this. Finally, the "deal" with West Virginia is, as correctly assumed, the reason for it's creation. Though I am curious on how you're water supply is endangered. Is it because of fracking? That's become an issue here in New York, and water pollution is definitely a big concern over it.

Would I be shocked to learn that someone in my government was taking bribes? No. I wouldn't be happy, though.

As for the government and our views on it. Honestly, I think most people where I live would rather ignore the government. I doubt there's a single person in my family that would want the government involved in their life. Not because they do anything illegal, but because none of us need (or would get) government assistance. So, if they started bugging us, that would probably be them causing us trouble. Like that time they passed a law that made our health insurance worse.

I cant speak for virginians, but for my georgia small town, there is a lot of apathy for local government as we receive very little services and change in return for our input (taxes and votes). Even when I moved to a larger town, the apathy was still there. I think thats why many southern and rural states are conservative as they rely on very little government assistance and services. Not that there is anything wrong with implementing government programs in the community.
A fellow Georgian. *High Five*
How do you like this crazy weather?

As for West Virginia, they separated during the Civil War and are now a state full of natural beauty and crippling poverty. They're also the butt of every American incest joke.
Since when did Alabama change it's name to West Virginia?
