immediately! When i was nine i played FFIX for the first time and it has been my favourite game ever since.
Though with Skyrim i didn't like it at first (i know blasphemy) but it took 3 hours for me to love it. that and the arrow to the knee..
Can that count as nostalgia? But then again if you were 9 when that came out ... Then you are ... GASP! your opinion is invalid by defaut .( this is a joke ...ish)

OT: i don't LOVE games . Love is a strong word , i guess i like games, but not love them , i'm kinda in like with them .Seriously though , i haven't loved a game in a long time . My favorite games are challenging , recently iv'e fallen in like for darksouls , but it was a short like , like 100 hours ( two playthroughs). I enjoy games but don't love them.

Rereading my posts it makes no sense , but hell if i'm going to clarify it , do that on your own.

It really depends on the game.
When I first played GTA IV I hated it. After I spent some time with it, it became one of my favourite games of this generation.
And when I first played Audiosurf, Super Meat Boy I loved them.

Within a matter of seconds.

For example:

Mass Effect 2 starts off and the moment you step into vacuum I was sold hook-line-and-sinker.

Portal 2 starts off and immediately I'm grinning from ear to ear. "Appreciate the painting in 3... 2... 1..."
