Well after reading about all these new and stupid bills that are being passed in the USA (ACTA, COICA etc). I have come to the conclusion that it's only a matter of time before the rest of the world joins in and we all spiral together towards a bloody oblivion.

But fear not my brave comrades, for I "Etherlance" have created our salvation!!

Using a technique I picked up from Lex Luthor, I have succeeded in creating an entirely new continent!
There is plenty of room and I have decided to enlist all of you mighty minded nobel individuals to join the government that shall rule this land.
As we speak I have an entire army of scientists genetically augmenting the landscape to support life, the things we have so far are:

* Fresh flowing water.
* Animal lifeforms (cows, sheep etc)
* Plantlife that absorbs CO2 at a rate of 300% faster than current plantlife.
* Insect life (Bee's, ants etc).

However now that we have some of the basics I turn to my government and ask.....What now??
Where do we go from here?
What do we call this new land?
We are the last remnant of civilised society but what do we do with it?

I leave the decision and fate of our new land in your hands.

P.S
Just to settle one small point here, this country is a democracy as a default but if voted upon can change to monarchy or dictatorship if the people so choose.

P.S.S
Ok it seems we are getting really hung up about how to rule this land so for the sake of stability.....I will take charge as King (I saved your arse's and let you live here, you all owe me!).
However I will delegate the running of the country to you guys (The parliment/senate) and will give out certain promtions to those I feel may do well in certain areas due to their comments.
After a five year period I will drop the monarchy and give the power to parliment/senate (take your pick) and we will see what happens from there.

P.S.S.S
Ok we seem to be also hung up on the damned atmosphere as well so let's assume the continent and small surrounding research and development lab islands are domed off with sealed shuttles that take people between them.

Are we talking about the law about selling videogames to minors? Because the rest of Europe pretty much already has that and we have yet to spiral into oblivion.

Uh that's why I'm leaving the fate of the country in your hands, so everyone gets a vote and has a hand in the decision making.....That is what democracy is....isn't it??

I'm going to have to go with Monarchy to get things set up and running. A democracy would take way to long to get anything set up.

I vote for a dictatorship under me, and I will pay the majority of the population to follow suit.
Stick that in your pipe and smoke it, democracy-boy!

No I'm talking about all the crap that the governments of the world are spewing forth and that I believe that we are pretty much screwed sooner or later because of them.
so I have made a new country and put you guys in charge of it so if it all goes tits up we can all put our hands in the air and say together:

"Yeah this was our fault".

Based on the assumption that plants are still using photosynthesis to produce sugar, water, and oxygen, I'm fairly certain that if plants are utilizing CO2 3 times faster (or, three times as much CO2 in the same amount of time), oxygen would be produced 3 times faster (or, 3 times as much O2 in the same amount of time). That isn't necessarily bad at first, but we would be living in super-volatile living conditions.

Any biology or chemistry nerds want to double check that for me?

Government is technocracy. From there obviously housing and infrastructure is needed. As for what we do with humanity, we do our best to open people's minds to principles of acceptance and community rather than consumerism and hatred.

Ah crap I forgot about all that, I got a little caught up in the moment.

Thanks for putting me straight on that.
Actually we need another guy to help one of our scientists with the corn production......it has had some....er...problems recently.

Screw democracy, have a oligarchy of ruling philosophers, or prehaps the system they had in rapture

"a city where the artist would not fear the censor, where the scientist would not be bound by petty morality, where the great would not be constrained by the small!"

sounds like my kind of place.

Why am I suddenly thinking of Machiavelli again? That's twice in the same day.

Anyway, if you need some black-ops science going on, I specialize in Weather Control Prediction. Just throw me a cabinet position and I will guarantee that lightning shall strike twice...and you get to choose where.

May I suggest that "We didn't start the fire" become our national anthem, simply to see people struggling tryign to learn it?

Sounds good but make sure to implement some sort of punishment system for those who fail to recite it correctly.
