How soon is too soon for nostalgia?

Actually, I guess this could apply to anything, not just games, but this interests me so what the hell. I picked up Cave Story+ in the Steam sale, having been a fan of the original, and on playing it heard a remastered version of the theme tune that had been stuck in my head for so long.
It was weird, because I only played the original Cave Story a couple of years ago, and yet I still got nostalgic. So here's a question: what are the recent games you've picked up after having not played them for a bit, or maybe something reminded you of them, that you've still managed to get feelings of nostalgia about?
'Cos I suspect that's the mark of a truly good game, a memorable one that feels like it's been with you forever.

I think nostalgia correlates with stages in your life: toddler, kid, pre-teen, teen, young adult, etc. If you've spent a decent amount of time in any one stage than you can experience nostalgia for things you enjoyed in an earlier stage of your life. That's how I figure it works anyhow.

I guess it depends on an individual basis for when someone gets a nostalgia trigger but I do remember hearing the crash bandicoot theme somewhere not so long ago which brought about a smile.

It's always a great feeling when you've forgotten about something only to be reminded of it unexpectedly.

I believe that when a console/handheld is replaced by a next gen console/handheld (i.e. they cease to make games for them), and newer content is presented on the next gen console/handheld, that's when the nostalgia factor tends to kick in. You play games from a certain genre, series, or play style and might immediately compare it to your previous experiences on the past console/handheld.

I remember one of my relatives when they were playing Super Mario World on the SNES would often refer to how different it has become from the simpler times of Super Mario Bros. for the NES and how much better it had become since Super Mario Bros. 3, also on the NES.

Really agree with that you said. I personally go on nostalgia trips when thinking of 2010. Which of course is weird considering that it wasnt to long ago but it still was a different stage in my life.

I'd go with these guys. I can get nostalgic for things only a couple of years old, yet in a different stage of my life due to large events.

It's not really about length of time. I even get nostalgic thinking about some of my college classes from just a few months ago. It all depends on the feeling of longing that you get when you have fond memories of an experience. That could be from a week ago or a decade. Nostalgia is nostalgia.

Do you remember something very fondly? If so, be nostalgic. I have nostalgia about things from a few months ago, so you can be nostalgic about whatever the hell you want.

I believe it's never too soon to feel nostalgic about something. I felt nostalgic about Tsukihime just a week after I'd finished the game. I just grew such a strong fondness for that game.
