I agree, sports games make me sad. I can't stand them.
they are an abomination that should be taken behind the shed and given both barrels.

So yes, I have little to add to this thread.
I don't often see RTS games up there.

Though i saw CoD: WaW up there once, that made me VERY angry
Fuck off. Brothers In Arms: Hells Highway is a good game.

OT: How the fuck did CoD: WaW get in the top row?
Fixed
the only reason WaW sells is nazi zombies

Sports games. I don't think those things should EVER get top shelf. They just aren't that fun.

Ever walked into a video game shop, looked into you console's top 10 section to see a game such as "FIFA 10", "PES 10" or "The-casual-gamers-game" at number one?

I have many a time. Its annoying to see a good title such as DISSIDIA which pushed the bounds in Beat 'em Ups and what can be done on a hand held console (anyone who has played it will understand, ignore that comment if you haven't) somewhere in the low 20s while some kind of sports game (that the dev. releases every year with minor graphic upgrades and gameplay mechanic tweaking) hog number one? Annoying I'd say, what do you guys think?
i feel your pain dude.
when i was young, i could not understand how people loved to buy basically the same sports game every year just because it has a brand new number and they hope for a suprise at the bottom of the cereal box but all they find is a gaping hole of disappointment while all the good titles are acting as if they're all pacifists saying, "that's all right, you go on ahead"\

CAN"T TRUS DA SYSTEM!

i dont really like the fact that sports games are one the top ten it just shows how lazy people are getting instead of going out side and playing the sport they stay inside and play it on there couch

I agree with your complaint in principal, I can't fathom how something that's basically a re-hash of something that came out a year before can make top-ten anything. However, I played Dissidia, and I consider it the worst game I've bought since the last time I bought a sports title. Admittedly, most of the titles I buy I play at least twice through in their entirety, so it still wasn't a waste of money.

Oh, that's much better. Mind you, it's always freakin' the newest iteration of Call of Duty at the top. God, that kills me. Although, I saw one the other day which had Arkham Asylum as number one, and L4D2 as number 2. That was good. But generally they're crap.

Eh I don't really need public oppinion to like a game, and the majority are a bunch of idiots so it's better that sports games are number one, because if it was a game you liked then your an idiot, haha.

I personally like the sports games if you buy them every other year the difference is pretty drastic so I don't really understand the hatred for them... Other than a hatred for the sport or whatnot.
Captain Schpack summed it nicely: Why waste money on simulating something that you can go outside and do yourself?

If there are sports games with intuitive controls and polished physics, that's fine, but it's an inheritly broken concept.
Because in real life i'm 6,3 135 lbs and can't play tackle football for fear of breaking something :D Not to mention I don't own a team and make trades negotiate deals sign and release players etc.

Which is why a lot of people play the games if you 25 and working full time you can't play baseball or hockey or football on any sort of organized level so to remain connected to your sport of choice you watch it on tv and play madden NBA NHL etc. It's also about having some sort of control with your team, yeah the university of tn might never win another championship, but in NCAA 10 I can lead them to a dynasty. Its fun but I underestand why people don't like them.

I never understood sports games selling, to me it's like "if you like sports, go play sports".
Ah well.

I don't pay much attention to gaming top ___ lists. Though I've always wondered why they only seem to show the pathetic "My little hairdresser" or "Littlest pet shop" type games for DS and Wii. I mean it's fine if they advertise them but whenever I check the catalogues despite all the other good games available they only ever show that kind of crap.

The top ten's based on sales, not quality. Casual games and sports sell more, hence they appear at the top.

Quite simple, they do it by sales rather than game quality. Think about it, games based on say, Anime are a pretty acquired taste, and most specific games are. Football games are a generalisation or what casual gamers enjoy, and so having their teams updated with a new foot flick move to jump over makes them happy.

The masses infuriate me.

IM with you here, if you like football so much, go outside and play the damn game yourself, dont waste 60 bucks on it.
