Not all MLG players are douchebags. I know someone who is MLG and he only is because it puts up more of a challenge then normal. But most people who claim to be MLG aren't actually. The actual good ones aren't that bad at all. They are just really good at most games.

Becuase they're cheap, elitist pricks that think exploits like throwing a flag in front of you to run faster or spawn killing is "skill". Plus they clog the airwaves with their 1000's of attempts to get popular on television, which fails because no one want to watch MLG except people that want to be in it.

Alright, I'm gonna go ahead and be THAT guy...

Why do people complain so much about the MLG? Throughout threads (including this one), I've seen a couple of different shots taken against MLG and the players.
It's interesting how the one intelligent and meaningful post on this entire thread is completly ignored in favour of "lulz" and insults...very "intelligent"

Shot 1: "MLG players are jerks". Where has this backlash come from? I don't think I've ever met or played against anyone who professionally plays games (kids who put MLG in their gamertag or clan tag does not make them MLG players).
I presume the backlash has come from the trashtalking wannabe's, (like you said, those with MLG in their gamertag), the community on MLG related websites such as GameBattles (honestly, the community on that site is horrendous, to the point where I gave up playing in on the site due to the community). Both sets, if they are anything like they used to be, declared themselves "pro" at some point.

Shot 2: "MLG players are wasting their lives". Why should MLG players feel worse about their profession then any other professional athlete? The elite get paid the big money for what they do (I'm referring to other sports), why should these gamers be ashamed of it? I love this double standard that us normal gamers are doing it for fun and have no shame in our hobby, but these players who get paid to do what they love should feel ashamed for it.
Fact is, they shouldn't, neither should people who play to earn achievements - at the end of the day if they enjoy playing games let them - if they get paid big money to play them even better. It seems to be a stigma of the gaming community to insult any form of gamers different to the perceived norm. Another example would be "casuals".

Shot 3: "No skill involved". If there is no skill involved, get into MLG and get paid to do something anyone can do. This is the same "I could play QB in the NFL" logic that everyone seems to believe, doubly so here since gaming seems like it should be easy.
Again you answered your own question - everyone thinks they could be as good as the elite "If I played as much as them" or "If I had the opportunity", but very few could actually match that standard of play. Same goes for those watching sport on the television that blame the referees in Football (Soccer to Americans) when they have no idea what it must be like to referee in that environment without slow-downed replays from alternate angles...maybe they just want to make those players easier to insult, after all, it's harder to insult someone better than you at something you enjoy doing.

Indeed, a real pro looks at all the variables and devises a strategy that would give him the advantage.
Indeed, otherwise he never truly advances his game to a higher level.
Soldiers in war don't stop a battle and start screaming... "no, no, no, M16s are OP, you can't use them"...although I think that's pushing the metaphor a bit too far.
Sorry for ringing in but what does OP stand for, the only OP I know is Original Poster, pardon my ignorance

I've never had an MLG player beat me, what a load of pretentious assholes, and it's always on games anyone can be good at, like Halo, anyone can win a match on that game, it's based entirely around running to the most powerful weapon first.
I take a few issues with this post, and most of the posts in this topic.
For one, just because someone has MLG in their gamertag does not mean they represent the MLG community. You cannot judge these people as part of the MLG community. That would be akin to someone putting on a shirt that says "I'm a Christian!" and suddenly everyone thinks anything he does is the typical Christian behavior. Most of the MLG wannabes that play social slayer in Halo just so they can beat up on the people that don't play the game much are total assholes, but those people aren't the MLG community. Not to mention that all of the Halo tournaments (not just the ones with MLG settings) are always won by players from MLG teams.
It's also worth mentioning that Halo is one of the most competitive shooters on the console market. It's actually quite hard to get very good at Halo, because it requires a lot more than "running to the most powerful weapon first." For instance, [link]http://www.mlgpro.com/forum/showthread.php?t=246214[/link]. That is an extremely basic guide to setups on a few maps at higherlevels of gameplay. There is a huge mental aspect to Halo that doesn't come into play unless you delve into higher levels of competition.

They are even bigger douchebags then everybody else that plays Halo 3. If you play in the MLG playlists, and don't play amazingly, you'll be berated by everyone because they are 'professionals'.
I get trashtalked much more often in social slayer than I do in MLG. If you get trashtalked in MLG by your teammate, it's probably because you didn't have a mic. MLG is a very teamwork-based and strategic playlist, so if you go in without a mic you don't deserve any special treatment. That, or you just met another typical douche on xbox live. Xbox live is filled with idiots, it's no just limited to a single group.

"Flag juggling," as it's commonly known as, is a strategic choice. You can either choose stealth and carry the flag, or speed and juggle it, giving your position away to the enemy team. And it is not an exploit, people have been doing it before Halo 3, and if Bungie considered it an exploit they would have left it out of Halo 3 like they did the button glitches in Halo 2. Spawnkilling is not skill on most maps, but that's more or less Bungie's fault for maknig such easily camped spawn points. If you've ever been on the wrong end of a spawn trap on Last Resort CTF, you'd think to yourself "wow, this takes no skill." And you'd be right, which is why MLG doesn't have Last Resort in their playlists because it's unfair for one team. over another.

I don't know if I HATE them, but they certainly aren't doing themselves any favors in my eyes. The list of errors they make if trying to earn my affection is fairly long, but a short, itemized list would include:

1) They took something fun and made it into a job. The quickest way to destroy a hobby is to become employed in the same field.

2) They tend to have bizzare social malfunctions. Cursing does not make a good substitution for wit, homophobic epitats are the laziest and least effective of insults and whining at length about EVERYTHING will earn them no friends.

3) Bizzare god complexes. They have mastered a skill set and that is worthy of some accolade. For some strange reason these people often think they should be held in the same regard as a professional athlete in an intensely demanding and competative sport. The trouble is, having played both video games and demanding competative sports, I'm entirely certain this is a load of garbage. Within a few days of playing a video game I am often capble of besting the majority of people in the world. In Three years of fencing four times a week I find that I am still far from being a world class athlete in the sport.

4) They sell-out instantly leveraging fame that I didn't even know existed. I never heard of Fatality or whoever it was until they started marketing gear with his name on it.

5) The entire MLG culture is forever cursed with a mentality that averages out to the middle school level. I'm sure there are plenty of perfectly smart, completely pleasant people in the field but the only part of it that reaches my ears and eyes is the endless parade of social ineptitue and general douchebaggery.

SNIP.
If they want to make gaming thier job, I say fair play, but the abuse-filled attitude you describe for the majority of them would annoy me too if it is indeed the case.

well id say most of the backlash is from MLG themselves. now ive Never played with pros but when i did play MLG on halo it was total crap. what they all used was BRs and headshots which ruined the fun of that playlist for me and if our team lost it was MY fault beacause i was new to MLG. this had happened on more than ocasion and NOT in the SAME week :p But yeah. thats my best opinion in a nut shell.
