I wouldn't want a game that focuses of the SS or whoever was involved with the genocide. I would prefer a game where you play an everyman with a life of their own, fighting for the same reasons any other soldier would fight for their country. For their comrades in the trenches.Skin said:Or it could show the lay-man such as yourself that not all German's were Nazi's, just how US soldiers aren't all redneck 'publican's who want to kill them evil EYERACKEES to protect good old capitalism.TheOneBearded said:If you played as the bad guys, what would the missions be like? Go murder and burn the Jew children for the Nazis? Blow yourself up in the name of Allah? The mainstream media masturbates to the idea that a game like this would pop up.
As such it could show that there is no right or wrong, but only winners and losers. And since CoD likes killing the player off so much, there is no problem.
*Applause*. Yes, that would be a fantastic game. But like someone said earlier, I wouldn't trust Infinity Ward or Dice with such a task. How about those guys who made Metro 2033? They made a SP focused game that was excellent. I am sure they can do it again.the clockmaker said:snip
I'll do you one better, Smeggs.Smeggs said:For the sake of shaking it up with a different perspective, and let me be clear, this is just something I've thought would be somewhat interesting, what if one of the games had you play as a Nazi soldier at one point?
Seriously, the only reason it hasn't happened is because people are easily offended. I'm not talking some sort of generic soldier or pro-Nazi portrayal, I'm talking being placed in the shoes of one of them, in WW2, seeing all of the propoganda and hatred during that era, for a moment. I mean hell, MW2 had you gunning down an airport of innocent civilians in Russia.
I just always felt that if it were done correctly, a realistic portrayal of them would be something new to explore. Obviously that'd ruffle quite a few feathers, but I'd always just felt like it was sort of odd how we've played as the Americans, British, even the Russians, but never the Germans. Or the Japanese. They're both always just portrayed as cannon-fodder.

Think about it.
Here is the thing. Males just don't understand females very well and have a very hard time relating to them. You see this in a lot of writing, where the females come off as generic, or even if it was good writing of a female character, it is hard for a male to really know.urahara75 said:* I'd like to see a AAA FPS shooter where main, or even a supporting character is a female soldier. Hell, I'd settle for actual female NPCs directly involved in the story arc(s). Oh yeah, they don't get credit for invoking commonly used female tropes/cliches to relegate them to plot devices or anything like that. The IP would instantly lose any and all future consumer dollars and time from me if they did so.![]()

Considering you brought up the lowest common denominator in second paragraph, do you really think game developers will risk a female protagonist which their audience could not jerk off too? It is somehow a much bigger risk than allowing us to play as WW2 Germans, or massacring civilians.
I'm not certain, but I think that would actually make the game illegal in Germany.Smeggs said:For the sake of shaking it up with a different perspective, and let me be clear, this is just something I've thought would be somewhat interesting, what if one of the games had you play as a Nazi soldier at one point?

Careful with the logical fallacy. I found her no more interesting the Gordan.Vault101 said:I mean (yep..going back to that old chestnut) Alyx vance....EVERYONE* loves alyx vance..
Here is where it gets tricky. Ellen Ripley was about as characterized as a walnut soaked in vinegar. She could have just as easily been a dude and it would have made no difference to anyone.and plus..in any given situation is it really that hard to empathise with "holy shit! shoot shoot! gotta kill the enemy before I die!"?....such as in Aliens or Terminator 2?..
