I personally like that Terraria offers a lot of options for crafting, enemies, and items over Minecraft. After gifting the game to my boyfriend via Steam, he refuses to play it. Something about too many slimes that are too hard to dodge and not liking the crafting menu. Meh.

Anyway, is there anything that can be said to make this Minecraft fanboy give Terraria a chance? I have tried talking him into it since it was released, but I have run out of ideas.

EDIT: He tried it for maybe 15 minutes in multiplayer. I'm trying to see if he'll give it a shot in singleplayer where the spawn rates aren't so bad.

Sounds like he did give it a chance already and didn't like it (I get this impression based on your claim that he think it has too many slimes that he can't dodge and that he doesn't like the crafting menu).

So I say if he doesn't like it, let it be.

This is a hard one. I would assume your BF is a lot like me. I like to build and I don't find Terraria lending itself to that much. I find it is a different game, you build what you have to and go on to fight. Try to separate Mine Craft from Terraria. It is a completely different game. Play Mine Craft to build and Terraria to kill. If you can get him to play don't forget to play Mine Craft with him some. I play both games depending on my mood.

I played Minecraft, then i played Terraria. I like both. I think i'm more of an adventurer then builder, so i find Terraria more satisfying then Minecraft. In fact, i found exploring in Minecraft quite boring. I still enjoy both games, but Terraria is more of a RPG then builder. Minecraft is just electronic lego with extras. (i'm joking)

I just got Terraria myself after playing minecraft for so long, someone got it for me...i thought it would just be a minecraft clone at first.

However, after playing it some, solo and with friends, i found a few things i like :D

A couple tips:

Give his character(s) a item boost in MP, grappling hook anyone? something fun to play with, just for messing around. and tell him there's alot more.

Maybe fight a boss, with him playing with you. my friends summoned the devourer of worlds and i was like "craaaap" then i was like "THIS IS AWESOOOOOME" (i still only had copper/iron XD)

I'm sure theres more i could suggest, but nothing off the top of my head right now. I'm still fairly new to the game myself, but i do like it...just try to get him playing, and warn him you die alot at first.

quick edit: i still play minecraft too, i like both games. They both have their merits.

Im kind of in his position, I started out playing minecraft and then a friend wanted to play Terraria together. We spent a night in it and at the end of it I just didnt like it. For me it was a personal taste thing as Im guessing it is for him too

I would say dont pressure him into playing it again. Let him see you playing it and see how much fun you have with it. Then if he wants to give it a second chance he will
